I'm not in favour of quads on freeways and National Highways.
And I'd say if there was more motor bikes and scooters on city roads, traffic congestion would be less.

I'm in Qld, ( it's different State to State ) and we are given conditional rego, which gives us some options. Tassie has a full rec rego, that gives a lot more. A lot of the states have provision for "working" bikes.

I think if riders are accredited, and a suitable rego for the right roads was available, it'd be OK.

As a footnote, I actually got pulled over by a motorbike cop while travelling home from a job that I was using my bike on. He checked my paperwork, told me straight that he doesn't know how the rego worked for my bike, that he was sure I must have broken some laws but didn't have a clue what they were and let me go. Cool Waved at me the next day and I waved back. laughing

thoughts are simple, having reg has a purpose, if you do you spin around the block & get collected by a car or whatever your screwed, you get involved in an incident where someone gets hurt your also screwed...so next time you get the urge to saddle up for a quick spin on a road think about the possible bad things that could happen "what if's?" & also consider bad press can come from a non registered ATV riding on the road, media & government seem to love giving us a bad wrap...food for thought

he asked the question mate, i had a friend who rode another friends pocket bike, it was one of those proper ones that was a little weapon. he took it for a spin around the block & got collected, got busted up badly. He wasnt on a reg'd bike so getting a claim processed for rehab/medical costs was near impossible to do, he ended up losing his house to get himself better. the original question was very much on those lines so if old mate doesnt mind copping a fine if he gets caught by the cops & is willing to risk being in an incident & not having some level of cover then so be it. I have insurance for a reason

Shame the bloody quad commision dosent spend their time trying to get rego through M.a. for Australia. but then again that would mean they would have to help quad sport not hinder it.

The Quad Commissions has been pushing the Rec Reg issue with MA and wont stop.
But it hit a stumbling block when the Board reffered it to MSA a few months back.
Feedback from MSA saw the idea shelved because they don't want to look at until they have finished the SA Off Road Strategy for ADR machines.

But our Quad requirement is going back to the board reinforcing that we need a National approach, not a SA local approach.

Failing that there are irons in the fire with Regional Developement Australia in looking at Rec Riding opportunities with all Local Government sectors.
