Wanting to change from the standard air filter to something that that's not as restricted on my 700 Raptor with intentions of doing the pipe & programer a bit later down the track.
Which is better ? A K&N type that you can only blow out or the foam type you can wash and re-oil.
Never had much to do with the K&N type but you can get an outer wear cover for them that you can wash.

Not sure they make many for Quads yet.. but if enough people ask, I'm sure they will.

Steve id be putting it down to the type or riding you do?, i started off with the foam types, they were good with no complaints however sooner or later the solvents in the oil kills the glue that bonds the foam to the rubber mount, I got sick of replacing them...i use a K&N now mainly because i dont ride in dusty conditions (i prefer mud) but my preference is now that the K&N will last a long time, performance was the same, if there was any difference i didnt notice it _________________ 04 TRX 450r

I run the K&N with a pre filter (outerwears). Apparently the foam are better for stopping finer dust particulate but my intake is always spotless whenever I clean the filter and we ride in extremely dusty conditions up here. You wash and oil the K&N the same as you do with foam, it's just different stuff. _________________ I'm not suffering from insanity, I'm enjoying it!!! |

| If you choose to run a K&N make sure you use a filter cover over the top of it, and you can wash out the K&N and re-oil it. |

Cheers JB , It can get fairly dusty where I mainly ride.
Mitch, I didn't realise you could wash the K&N type out or ar you just talking about the outerwear only , I thought they were a paper type filter . _________________ The older I get the faster I was !! |

| I was reading the box the other day and it said something about cotton i think? But yeah you can wash out the K&N and re-oil it, not just the outerwear |

I used to run a K&N style (FUEL ATV) filter with outerwear meant to be like double to ply cotton than a K&N and killed my motor in the first 2 hours after a full rebuild. I was riding right up behind someone in real heavy fine dust for a few laps though. Since then i switched to a custom UNI filter set up which uses a foam filter with a pre foam filter aswell. I would never use a k&n style again. But thats just me.... _________________ Thanks to:

Yes the K&N is a paper element.
To properly clean a K&N filter you first spray the outside with filter cleaner (K&N brand) and then run under a tap through the inside until the water runs clean. Repeat if necessary.
Dry properly.
Then re- spray with K&N filter oil. The outerwear may need to be cleaned but don't oil it.
Compressed air can damage a paper element filter. _________________ Cheers,

| If your going to do a pipe down the track go with a full intake and filter from fuel customs will really get your bike going |
