http://www.quadsquad.org/expedition.html
"Guinness World Records Record attempt.
The Expedition Quad Squad Team will be enduring a 12-month long challenge through Europe, Africa and then Australia, crossing 34 countries in the process and travelling 50,000 km to break the current Guinness World Records Record for the “Longest journey on an quad bike (ATV)” by more than 22,000 km which currently stands at: 27,141 km (16,865 miles).
The Expedition Quad Squad Team will also be the first people in Australian history to ever be allowed to ride ATV quadbikes on normal roads, as they are prohibited from regular registration nation-wide. To be able to do this, EXP is collaborating with the four main State road authorities in Australia, such as the R.T.A."

Just thinking out loud but maybe the interest we had in this thread
http://www.ozatv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15633
Could this be reignited and possibly linked to the above attempt? _________________ Remember. We elect politicians, but we have to deal with bureaucracy.

A lot has happenned since I first posted.......
Tragically, Val was killed a few 100km from breaking the previous record. Ted and Jamie decided to carry on and are currently bound for Sydney from Cairns.

Good on them for doing so well, why havn't we heard more sooner of them travelling through Aus, they should have done charity rides in the Capitals, The biggest question is though, how the hell did they get permision to ride across australia, my bike is legal on the road in europe so why the hell can't we all ride on the road ? _________________ Bill Case

They've been plugging along through isolated areas, with INTERNATIONAL REGISTRATION, keeping a lowish profile. There is certain reasons for that.
And while cruising @ 65km/h, is safe and economical on a very loaded Grizzly*, it is not a ideal pace on popular highways and bi-ways. Road trains are tricky things and speeding tourists in the bulldust won't see you and can run over the top of you.
*Remembering, they have mainly lived out of the bikes since leaving Istanbul in Turkey.
I've been following the progress on their web page and facebook, and have been asked to let them ride without too much attention in Aus, until now. They have very fixed goals and agendas.
But there is some gaps since they landed in Perth.........
They've done a lot of riding through the North West, The Tanami Desert, Central Aus and the Topend, through Mt Isa to Cairns.
I am unsure of the planned route to Sydney, and, as much as I'd like tagging along for some of it, this is coming to their moment of glory.
They certainly deserve it, and they don't need my ugly mug getting in the way.
They'd like a big welcome home to Sydney, which co-incides with ride safe week. _________________ Remember. We elect politicians, but we have to deal with bureaucracy.

I saw two quads on the Bruce Highway today, heading south between Ayr and Bowen, at about lunch time. The riders were dressed in what looked like full camo/army gear, must've been these guys. _________________ 2002 SE Banshee |

Funny, I was only thinking about this last night..........
As a long time campaigner for useful quad rego in this country, I'd love to see it. And the trikes, as a historical aspect, and side by sides to show the evolution. For over 30 years, we've been "doing it" and we are not going away, current Nanny States or not.
Possibly, as a MA sanctioned event, it could happen. But the lead time may be a bit short to organise it. Maybe PM Roycroft, see what Mick can pull out of the bag. _________________ Remember. We elect politicians, but we have to deal with bureaucracy.

A outstanding achievement. Well done Expedition Quad Squad.
( Mind you, if I rode my quadbike to every meeting I've had with Qld Government trying to get a fair go for quads, I'd be closing in on the original record...... ) _________________ Remember. We elect politicians, but we have to deal with bureaucracy.
