| Surprise. Surprise. They are already saying that Quads will be limited. I don't understand why? What can be done to change this? |

I rode there when Ray Buchanan organised a day to conduct noise tests. I won't be going back!
It was horrible riding, huge rocks in the grass, huge rocks on the hills mixed in with bulldust, huge rocks everywhere...
If they limit quads we won't be missing much. |

Flipper,
I would think that by the time it is opened, the huge rocks will be cleared and the tracks groomed. I will definately give it a try, I think, at least a couple of times before I make a judgement.
I think it will be seriously over crowded, though, for some time though. |

Wyaralong is the great hope of some many people for off road 2 and 4 wheelers of all ages in the south east.
I've worked there, at the dam site, and it is in fact steep, dusty and rocky with any medical help a long way away.
The location suits many on the GC and south and western sides of Brissie, but was set up with a very firm agenda in mind. ( To get the riders out of the bush and pine reserves near houses. )
I'll reserve my own decision on whether it's OK, for a few years yet, simply because it is new, way underfunded to start and is actually managed by MAQ, who are mainly interested in dirt bikes for this venue, although allowances for "other users" will be made. Suck it and see.
Note that very little of the planned stuff will actually be in place when it is eventually opened.
Quads are very much the poor relations of the two wheelers. The few quad clubs around represent probably less than 10% of the quads out there. And only one MAQ affiliated Qld quad club is in the SE, compared to how many 2 wheeler groups?
We don't get the representation because we are very much the minority group on paper. That is not a criticism of the clubs, and the people trying to make a change, it is just the reality that most riders are not in clubs, and it really shows when trying to deal with the boffins.
IMO, Wyaralong, in reality, will do bugger all to stop riding which isn't legal because the current local and state administration are so out of touch with the needs of the thousands of riders who are driven below the radar by the policies of the various authorities.
For example, northside of Brissie there is excellent trail riding far from houses. Our previous "OK" to ride has been given a "hold on for a bit" due to some incidents causing Police and EPA Rangers to significantly increase patrols. That has been the situation here for well over 12 months, and that includes a lot of very big regions, where you can ride a few hundred kms of trails in a day.
Despite the reduced trail riding opportunities, it still sort of makes a few circuits at Wyralong too controlled to me. _________________ Remember. We elect politicians, but we have to deal with bureaucracy.
Notice that crazy in the bureaucrats. |

It's no wonder we get steamrolled with comments like this. Perhaps, since you took the time to speak to MAQ, you could have put up some resistance or, even better, organised an announcement so that quad riders every where could add their weight in and change this stupid decision. I and two other quads currently ride with about 7-8 two wheelers. Not once have we come close.
So, instead of patting each other on the back for bending over and letting MAQ stick it to you, active "club" members like yourselves should stand up and help make the quad voice heard.
Oh, and before you choose to write back with some further negative comment about my post; Yes. I am an active member of a club, (not yours obviously) and, yes, I have helped change occur. |
wtf.... do you have any idea just how much effort our club, other clubs as well as the numerous individuals that haunt this forum and others have put in to have the quad riders voice listened to? of course not use your search function....
good on ya wally..... umm what change did you make besides your bad attitude ? |

your so lost its not funny.....
So heres ya 1.2.3
Our club has written and phoned, Met ministers, council, various government Dpts and organisations 1000s of emails, letters, phone calls and petitions have been made by our club and other clubs to them... our club was formed just for that reason we are trail riders wanting somewhere to ride legally...
Our club has done far more than you obviously can see
you seem to have tunnel vision ..
if you had actually attended one of our meetings you would have a better understanding of what our club is about .. id love to write you a 10 page post of just how much we have fought for Wyaralong to even exist ...
your rants and raves on riding places have all been done before by many quad riders i suggest you save your BS for your phone call to MAQ while your there maybe you can make the same comments that have been made before by all the others that have been trying.......
you better get in line there’s a bunch of other clubs here on the coast with a lot more members that have been trying to be listened too by government ect .. a long time before you
have you even bothered to participate in any of surveys when they asked the big questions who would use such a park what do you ride ect ?
im guessing no .. cause most of what has happened at Wyaralong all happened before you even existed and here comes the roll out .. a park with little money that the government washed its hands of .... i cant see why quads wont be allowed there allowed everywhere else and if there not allowed at Wyaralong then Look the F... Out cause we will be beating the doors in …
for now my personal feeling is that Wyaralong & MAQ need a chance to get organised and settled so the mistakes of the past don’t happen again
Please order that man a soap box ..... |

Dear Skelator,I'm glad all the other people that come and ride with us don't act like this..As for not helping the "cause",you have absolutey no idea the amount of emails, phone calls and letter writing we have done..
The project manager of Wyaralong finally got accustomed to my weekly phone calls to him.The council of mayors office got sick of me. Just because it not on this forum, don't think we are sitting back "letting everyone else do it"We have been involved with Dino etc, long before you appeared.
The part about"get your wallet out" at our club meeting??? for what?? $10 membership? We all got pestered to buy a hat and t-shirt,the money going to pay for club incorporation,to look after our members!! It certainly did not buy us all new quads!! I hope you have a good ride.Gazman VP SEATV
..... i have edited this post in the interest of the quad community in general.I think your PM about" personal attacks" was a bit over the top.
We are all trying to get a better deal for bikes/quads and somewhere to ride legally. As for our club,we gave you somewhere to ride for the day,i think we had a bbq lunch and rode some more.....and you did not need to get your wallet out, facts.

I stand by my post of lets ride there first.I relize that wyaralong won't be the be all and end all of riding parks in SEQ, but its a start of sorts and may lead to other parks opening elsewhere. However,i feel its a bit ungratefull bagging the GOV and MAQ etc for at least looking at it.And NOT even having ridden there yet.Restricting Quads there? I have spoken at length to Lindsay Grainger (have you?)from MAQ and i understand the vast majority of users will be bikes ,at least we CAN ride there.Have you ever taken your quad to an RTCB ride day? As for "letting MAQ stick it to us???" Who else are we supposed to deal with?? If you have a better thought out plan to ensure a legal riding area for quads only, please share and we will back you up too.I hopefully have a meeting with my local member next week,do you?I don't know what your expectations were of our club .We are only a small group trying to find somewhere to ride legally and if we can help get "rec rego"
as well, alls good.As for the wallet,is your current club free to join?
gazman ..PS edit i posted this before i got your interesting PM |

I hope Wyaralong works but I think it will start behind the 8 ball...
1. It is almost guaranteed to struggle financially. You only have to drive past the entrance and see what they have been forced to spend on entry & roads to realize there won't be much left to properly build tracks.
2. The soil is of a type that will tend to bulldust and rocks will keep coming to the surface. I'm really not sure whether it will be a fun place to ride. Steep hills that are bulldust and rocks suck!
3. Whether on a bike or quad safety is going to be an issue. I really can't see how they will be able to sweep the park properly at the end of the day. At the trial ride I got stuck on a creek crossing on a track they thought they had already swept and couldn't get the quad out on my own. I just had to keep trying and hope they came looking which they finally did. Not sure how they will be able to staff appropriately with the funding. |
