Hey,
I'm new here, dont want to get off on the wrong foot but would like to comment on the hardiman topic that got locked.
Firstly, i'd like to say that i exist on a pretty average wage, got a mortgage, bills, all the rest. If i can get the same part cheaper o/s why wouldn't i buy it? I'd like to buy 'Australian Made (Imported)' but they just cost too much, does that make me a bad person? I don't think so. I reckon a lot of people would do the same.
On that topic, i recently bought a steering column from a Yamaha dealer here in Perth, I paid $280 for it, they left the invoice attached for what they paid, which was $140. That sort of markup is a bit rich for me.
I'd like to buy local but just cant afford it. |

30% Is where you want to be ,there s not a business around that does not charge that.
100% profit is why people import things themselfs.
But at the end of the day people will buy it where ever they can most of the time and not care to much about the price.Look at a servo $4.50 for a 2litre milk.
I think in general japan sets the sell price and the dealers sell it for that ,its not quite double. _________________ OH "profanity removed" I SAID "profanity removed".......OH "profanity removed" I SAID "profanity removed" |

We live in a free market.
Most of us all have purchased something from the US direct. It's not illegal.
To a customer the Aus suppliers are here for convenience, service, sometimes their price is just as competitive as the US and most of the time the item is on the shelves ready to bolt on. Don't forget they also support the Aussie ATV industry!
This topic really isn't achieving anything other than p'ing off some people.
And, it's not going to change shoppers buying habits.
Welcome to the forum jebus and buy wherever you feel your getting the best deal & service.
Just don't rule out the Aussie ATV suppliers.
It's cheaper to call John at JMC Racing or Pete at Southern Quads (only used as examples) for advice than the States.
Sometimes that's worth the extra dollars for an item. _________________ Don't close your eyes during the crash, you'll miss the best part |

Where is the original post ?
It's a shame we don't have any local manufactures of these goodies as I'm sure most of us would like to have our hard earned $ stay in OZ, but until we have a large enough market, the parts have to be imported regardless. Wether directly or through a 2nd party. _________________ The term "Foolproof" seriously underestimates the ingenuity of Fools.

Some have tried that before, and some are still trying, to be a parts manufactuer you have to have something else to support you because there is not the market (as you say) and what ends up happening is you turn to importing or just retail in other products to supliment and it takes over the manufacturing side. It is also a BIG layout to set up to manufacture most of these parts effectivley _________________

Try and do a warranty claim on a broken axle in America! I had to import an axle years ago ( there was only one guy supplying parts then and he wouldn't even return calls, sound familiar? ) so I imported an axle with the " lifetime warranty" as long as I paid freight to get it to USA and back! I also had to wait months for the return. Man, what happens when stuff don't fit properly? send it back? to USA? that sound productive.
Shop local with he who provides the best SERVICE. We all pay for $3.00 for a bottle of water and the stuff falls out of the sky for free? It's called the price of convenience, we all pay it. The local guys have to provide good service so people come back. _________________ When I'm racing I'm living..... everything else is just waiting. |
