hey im sorta new to all this just got a atomik feral 250 (i know there "profanity removed" and will brake in a short period of time but i just wanted it to start on them ill get a 450 yam) and was just curious with the etiquette on stokton beach.. stay away from other riders? go say hi? start folowing them around? just curious on what the go is as i dont really have anyone to ride with atm.. and also do they come and do rego cheeks much? or should i def get it registered?

get it registered for sure and get a permit they do checks frequently and just go say hi when i got my quad (bought it in newcastle but live in QLD) i just said hi to a few people while riding at stockton and it was all good generally if u are by yourself they don't mind the more the merrier just keep up with them cause theres nothing worse than having to wait for someone u have just met to catch up

Havnt been there but if your ment to have rego ide get it as all the other rider would more anlikely have rec rego. An im sure all the guys would make you fill welcome an let you tag along thats what quad guys do an how our sport grows makeing new friend with other fello quad riders. I remember when i started out riding an didnt know anyone i just followed behine all the other riders learning from some of them an meeting some great people an becoming good friends.

I was riding along minding my own business at stockton and I look around and there was this bloke tailing me ...wtf..

Only kidding most of the time you can tag along ,best to stop and say gday in the car park or out in the dunes while at rest.

Dont know about your bike of choice ,good luck keeping up...

haha thx yeah i know im only a first year apprentice so i just wanted something cheep to start on b4 i start poring money into a Yamaha or Honda..

just curious why is your goal a 450 and not a 700 ? when i came off the chinas (because tape and glue would not hold it together anylonger ) i thought that a 450 was the coolest looking quad too and thought thats what i had to have until a friend pointed out there only happing when your reving the "profanity removed" out of them then i got on a mates rappy 700 for a day and i couldnt even look at 450 after that .and there cheaper in the long run not saying that the 450 is not a good quad as they are a good quad heaps of torque and fast but screw no reverse gear and the low profile MX stance when your trying to climb over rocks or swim a creek...
im not having a go at you im just curious .. is it because your interested in motorcross ? is that why you are setting your goal at a 450 ?

I went through the same thing as well Dazz.
I had my heart set on a 450 until I rode a demo rappy out at thumb pump.

I love 450s and banshees but the 700 has so much low down grunt.
The maintenance is really bugger all compared to a 450 plus you get a 12month warranty.
Trow a bit of money in to them and you can push 70hp on a stock bore.
Unless your going to race get the rappy.

fair enough ive just always started small with anything i buy and just get bigger lol but the biggest quad ive ridden was a 250 so not really sure how much more power the other bikes have but point taken i shall look into it =)

What you will find with your chinese quad is that for the sand there does not seem to be enough clearance and the swingarm bottoms out and you end up spinning the wheels and digging holes and pushing the quad a lot.
Chinese quad was great in the bush but we found it no good for the sand.
Possibly some larger diameter tyres may assist.
We tried an Elstar quad back in about 2008 and the kids got sick of pushing it and it getting bogged at the beach, they asked me to get rid of it and buy something that didn't have that problem.

but another newby question are rims sizes standard or diffident brands have diffident bolt configuration?

most chinese quads have a honda bolt pattern front and rear wheels.
if you ring elstars or atomik they may have some taller tyres.
Other than that ,replace all rubber hoses,fit a ngk spark plug and check all the nuts and bolts and you should be able to have a lot of fun without borrowing $12000.

hahaha true that and one last question =P where do i find a cheep signal light kit and horn because its all well and good to tick the boxes but i don't wana get a defect

I recently purchased parts from here to fit to an old XR500 so he could get it registered.
Could be of some use to you but you will need some motorcycle wiring knowledge or know someone that does.
They are in the USA but you could possibly get similar products out here.

thx bro ill work it out sparky by trade so ill just find some circuit diagrams and brush off the old soldering iron and heat shrink i got when i was 10 =P

just an update =) i have now received the bike and so far so good payed 1780 to my doorstep the only problems i had was
- few missing nuts
-washer that holds the wheel on did not have a hole in the middle?

but got them all from bunnings for like $2. and i also put thread lock on most of the bolts
and the quality of all the rubber pipes is exceptional

have been riding up and down my rd and so far so good heaps of torque very fast good quality parts so far im really happy with it just w8ing for the indicators to come in the mail and then rego time =)

You don't have to have indicators, rear view mirrors ect. to get conditional rego.
You don't even have to tick the boxes.

Alki is right, no need for any of that.
We all have been riding Stockton almost every wknd, i have only ever seen 1 quad with blinkers and mirrors out of the hundreds ive seen out there.
I dont have any of that stuff and neither does anyone we ride with, none of us ever had probs getting rego or with rangers.
Just fill in the paperwork at the RTA, no probs man, Stockton isnt like Bondi or Brighton in Sydney, no coppers looking to defect you up there for driving round with a loud exhaust, loud stereo, purple mirrors or shiney knob wheels .
Dont think you can defect something that isnt registered for the road, defecting a car means its unroadworthy.
