 |
|
G'day Guys,
I am buying 100 acres of lightly timbered land and I am after any tips on creating a trail. Is it as simple as walking the ground, marking out a track and going for it? I'll have a chainsaw and brush cutter on hand if required. I am conscious of what might seem ok on foot might not be ok on the quad, in particular making sure it is not too tight and flows nicely. Thoughts?
Cheers. |

I would ride it very slowly with your chainsaw and brush cutter and make a trail that way.
You can always make changes later if something doesnt work. Just include abit of everything..If you are planning on putting any sharpish turns in try and have a run off where you can go straight on if you over cook it.
Other than that just blaze a trail and have fun with it. |

Walk the place first and using your imagination and some notes, take in the natural flow of the land, hills. dips, banks etc to design the track. If you have a 4wd ute, drive the proposed track slowly clearing as you go. A car width is a good gauge and you can load any wood and brush into the back as you go to make sure the track sides don't build up with it. A good thing to keep in mind when marking a new track out is what level of impact it will have on the land and how much it will need to recover once you no longer ride there. A winding track designed to zig-zag around established stands of trees will be more fun than a straight run through the middle of them and have less impact on the land as well. My 2 cents anyway. _________________ I'm not suffering from insanity, I'm enjoying it!!! |

me I'd be against cutting any trees I like tight and single trail use the out side of the tree'd areas to make your fast tracks, any steep sections?, look invite a few guys up there , a mx racer. and trail rider, and let them go !!!! _________________ 2005 KFX700

Maybe you could incorporate a thumb warming station about half way around, for those chilly winter rides, frostbite is an everpresent threat..
Sorry to hijack your thread, hope it all works out nicely for ya. _________________ The term "Foolproof" seriously underestimates the ingenuity of Fools.
