Hi all,

Recently I have installed a slip on pipe. I have started it today and noticed that it idles fine but if I give it a bit from idle it seems to want to bog doen and die....

I back off and slowly rev and its fine........

Any ideas..

It is stock bar the pipe Smile

not as yet mate. Im really in two minds as to whether I need to or not. The more I read the more conflicting answers I get. I think that I will but my reading says that rejetting wont help this bog.....

Does it do it in neutral too?
If so try strangling the intake a bit with a rag and see if the flat spot goes away (restrict air and increase vacuum).
If it does, you have just proven that your mixtures need to change to suit your modifications.
Ie. you need to richen the low speed, or progression, or the main jet.
Try lifting the needle a clip and richening the idle mixture slightly.
If it's only slightly out, you may get it with these factory adjustments.

If this helps, you would have to wonder how close the main jet is at top end.
Thats where things can go bad very quickly.

probably more like... completely the problem.

...and it's really hard to ask questions and even more so to give advice on jetting, based only on a few lines written in a forum post.
Getting jetting wrong 'might' feel good enough but still result in catastrophic results the first time you ride it.

I'de say you should only copy someone who has done the exact same mods and dyno proven the acuracy of their recipe... or be very careful tip-toeing around until you get it right. And even then you would want good experience and advice all the way.
If you don't have the luxury of the above benefits... look for a good Dyno tuner near you who won't rip you off for what should be a very quick carby tune up.
QuadSquad are excellent if you are near Melbourne.

Shaun take note mate, you've done part of the pipe, now finish it with jetting & air filter & lid..Get it all tuned to suit, i know your reading different conflicting reads on it but ppl on here do it day in day out, you dont want to take a chance & possibly destroy your bike based on budget & winging it?. The advice you have been given is telling you that because you have made a slight change from stock so other things need to follow suit. good luck

buy a jet kit or take it to a workshop that can sort it out if you arent sure about doing it your self. I does sound like it will need some level of tuning to suit the pipe. Honda are well known for having very restrictive stock muffler for example putting a slip on on a 450R with an air filter it required a change from #118 main jet (stock size) to a #160.. where on most other carbed brands it would only be a change of 2 - 4 sizes
