Howdy,
I am just trying to put together a decent tool pack for when I go to the Dash in october and thought I would ask around a bit to find out what are the essentials. So far I have come up with;
Spanners to suit
Allen Keys to suit
Phillips and Flathead screwdrivers
Pliers and Long nose
Snips
Sockets, extension bars and ratchet or breaker bar to suit wheel nuts
Vice grips
6" or 8" shifter
Mini Tyre levers (to get mud plugs out)
One of those mini Tyre inflator (if they work for quad tyres...) with a few spare cartridges
Tyre pressure gauge
Cable ties
Electrical tape
Spare assorted nuts and bolts
Tie wire
Spare chain links/master link
Spare levers
I am sure that I have missed something and probably don't need all of that stuff either so let me know what you think.
What do you guys have in your tool kits?

Mate you're not likely to need that much. Are you gonna have a crew? All you should need is a tyre plug kit and a hand pump (small pushbike type) cable ties gaffa tape etc. Your crew should carry the rest including spare tyres and rims ready to swap on the track. Punctures are your biggest concern, other than crashing!
What some people do at the dash is buddy up with another crew and leap frog the fuel stops and look out for each other. Most are happy to help someone else.
From what I've seen at 3 Dash's so far is generally the quads are well set up and do quite well unless they have a major breakdown in which case your little tool kit won't help. _________________ Cheers,

Hey Muzz, we wont have a crew so noone to meet us at the fuel stops but the puncture it is a great ideal Ill add it to the list _________________ 2009 LT-R450

No worries, I'll keep an eye out for ya. Just remember carting all that stuff is extra weight! It would be wise to train with it all on your back and make sure you're comfortable with the extra weight..
I'd suggest small tool rolls strapped to the frame, but do it properly, I noticed a few guys lost them last year. _________________ Cheers,

Wise words indeed... Be careful, I had a mate on a 2 wheeler use a tool bumbag for Finke. He could barely walk at the beginning of day 2 from being whacked in the back the whole way down... |

Hello everybody.
I watch this forum for a while now, but this thread finally made me sign up.
Please be very careful wearing bum bags with tools inside.
I worked for over 13 years as paramedic, and can tell you they are outright dangerous, and dramatically increase the chance of a lower back / spine injury. If you fly over the handlebar and land on your back there is a big 'metal block' right on you lower spine. Even mx protection offers only limited protection, the back / spine protector often just stops short of that area.
I worked on several trophy’s in Europe ( Dresden - Breslau etc.) and in all of them bum bags are banned for the above reasons..
I don’t want to be a smart ass, I just saw what they can do, and it would have been so easy to prevent that.. |

If u r gunna carry all that stuff what about a piece of pipe that fits over the end of the bars? If u bend them u can straighten them. Similar, a rope to tie to a tree and bent part of the quad should you bend the front or something.

I don't carry tools. I just borrow them from my fellow riders. I believe in sharing _________________ Don't close your eyes during the crash, you'll miss the best part |

I have mostly sorted my tool kit out now and I am going to get a roll made up to tie in near the front bumper so that I won't be wearing it I think hooters advice is sound.
Here is a list of what's in it;
Stock tool kits from the bike
Puncture repair kit extra co2 bottles
Side cutters
Spark plug
Cable ties
Electrical tape
$20
Matches
Sports tape _________________ 2009 LT-R450
