 |
|
Hi all,
Ive recently bought a quad and thought I should do the right thing and license it for offroad...
I have filled out the relevant form (MR141) and now, upon further investigation on the DPI website, I need to take the bike into the pits and have it examined etc etc.
On top of this I need to pay fees for this to happen.
Is this in fact the case? If so I dont think Im going to bother as I simply do not have the time or coin to waste...
Any input would be appreciated. |

I think any officer authorised by the DPI can do it.
I could be wrong on that.
I think Police, Council officers etc, but maybe that's changed.
Maybe ask the local cop shop. _________________ Can-Am X Team

Pretty easy and just need ownership, VIN number etc. Do a search on here as it has come up before.
I think it is $20 for your first year then only $6 after that. _________________ 660R mine

So does that mean you can ride on beaches or forrests where quads would normally not be aload. Only two wheelers with rego we dont have this in SA to my nollage quote me wrong if im wrong. _________________ All Thanks to=

In WA the only rego you can get for a quad is "REC REGO" which means you can legally ride at one of three or four fairly pathetic "off road vehicle" area's and yes it's about $12 for the first year and then $6.00 P/A after that.
Area's around Perth include the Gnangara Pine Plantation, Kwinana Off Road Vehicle Area and the designated ORV part of Lancelin Dunes.
Legally you are not permitted to ride anywhere that is not a designated Off Road Vehicle Area. You cannot ride on beaches, in national parks or bush tracks unless it is Private Property. Woodridge Track is a good place to look.
I recently met a fella with a WA road registered quad but he is a quadriplegic with obvious mobility issues and it was extremely difficult for him to get it.
The only time you will legally ride on WA roads - sealed or unsealed - will be in an MA sanctioned event.
Although our ORV area's are pretty pathetic I am grateful for what we have. I just wish there was something with a one way sign, and maybe a beginning and an end, wholly sh!t, that would make it a track! ...... Nah, it'l never happen.
Sometimes I wish I lived in Ohio. They advertise in bike mags and invite people to come ride their trails - yeah baby! _________________ Cheers,

Cause they aren't built to meet Australia's stupid ADRs.
Who gives a crap just ride.
99.9% of the police in rural areas don't give a dam if you ride just as long as you don't go on the bitumen road.
I spoke to a cop that was just making sure I was doing the right thing (I was riding an old railway line next to a road ) and he said if it can't be registered how can you get done for no rego.
A quad isn't recognized as a motor vehicle in SA just stay of public roads and don't be a tool in the national parks you should be fine.
It would be nice to have rec rego and be 100% legal but we live in the no fun Mike Ran police state. |

By the "Recreating Of Road" brochure from DPI, it looks like you can ride anywahere in 95% of WA.
The light blue zones are the areas where the Act applies and excludes quads. There are 6 ride parks within these zones (around metro).
Pretty much everywhere else in WA you just nee your $20 Rec Reg.
PM me your e-mail address and i'll send the PDF brochure, i can't work out how to put it up here. _________________ Can-Am X Team

I wonder if someone has tried registering one as concept vehicle, might be a loophole. With regards to the cops pullin you up, they can do so on any gazzetted road for driving an unlicensed vehicle, this includes the main limestone track in gnangara pines and nearly all other tracks in our pine plantations that usually are marked by those green tyres with rd names all illegal places to ride an offroad vehicle. When I spoke to DPI about road rego, she showed an internal memo stating that the AIC "Aussie insurance commission" the issuers of third party insurance on car/ road bike rego, will not issue insurance to a vehicle that is manufactured as an offroad vehicle.
Therefore the DPI will not issue road rego for quads. Hopefully one day this will change because I work in the pines just north of gnangara offroad area and could think of nothing better than taking the 700 raptor to work everyday |

In WA it is a "B" Class Rego that you should be looking to get. This will actually, if I remember correctly, require the QUAD to be taken to a designated testing facility. Check with Brett from Legend Quads, he was very active in getting this rego organised. _________________ Its not if you win or lose but how you enjoyed the ride! |
