An email from DRR dealer in the USA
"Our 90cc ATV is Y12 our 70cc is Y10. DRR 90cc ATVs are built to be CPSC compliant and are stock legal in the us. These are mass produced ATVs not built one at a time. In the US they compete in the stock class.
thanks"

Y10 and Y12 are both max 30mph so they both fit Limited class speed limit of 48kmh.
DRR website is very hot on the standards and has warnings about tampering everywhere.
They were an early signatory to the standard, i think 2008.
Now their site cautions dealers about illegaly selling non-standard quads. _________________ Can-Am X Team

ive been sitting back reading all these comments and a lot of valid comments have been made, and by the passion shown , i would say the racing for junors in this sport is alive and well. I particularly like the fact that the new rules have recognised the chinese atv as well.
the chinese bikes are a great way to race at an affordible cost to many families without braking the budget however the disadvantages are the un realiability issues but once again the parts are cheaper to get. these quads are also good for parents wanting to get their kids racing , it gives the kids a chance to try racing without too much expense, so when they decide they dont like racing, you dont lose as much money as you would if you go out and buy a common japenese quad and set it up for racing.
it also gives the kids a chance to get experience and start getting confident about racing. soon after this has happened you will find you will or your kid will want a better more reliable quad and then you dont mind spending the money on a better one, because you know its what your kid wants and needs, this is pretty much why we just purchased a raptor 90 for my daughter , so i would seriously rec ommend to any one new to racing to get a chinese quad unless you have a big budget , we must remember its all about the kids and not us, all we can do is teach them to be safe and enjoy quad racing because this sport is growing and its passionate people like us that will keep it alive. |

7-13yrs limited.
9-13yrs comp.
I don't know why they couldn't make it 7-13yrs comp.[MA rules I suppose ]
This would Keep everyone happy !!!!!
If you new ;ride limited.
Once you get confident ; get a faster bike and step up.
SIMPLE !!!!!!
The Race ready dilema will raise it ugly head in the 200/300 class in the coming 12 months with the introduction of the apex 250.
The limited bike modified to suit will not even come close .
We may end up with a limited and a race ready /comp. in the 200/300 class as well.
We should then call it limited and comp./open[hybrid] classes as they do overseas to make it more competitive.
thanks scotty

Not a bad idea
After checking out the WORCS and GNCC Rules that Pyjamas mentioned this is also what they do
But do we have the numbers here to do that?
What I dont like about the new rules is that next year when our girls move up to the 90 class next year with current bike they will have to compete against modified and shifters. It just doesnt seem right to have to go straight from the 50 to 90 mod class despite being on an OEM bike |
Hmmmm the way I read the rules .... A apex is a modified quad ...OEM is this True ...... NQAC have got these so wrong .
MY susgestion to grow the sport NEW NON competitive kids turning up for the first day should be able to ride .... NOT shown the GATE
Unfortuneaty That parents buy their kids a Quad for Xmas on value for money not what class they can ride at the races. eg Dad buys little johnny a 90 when he is six because its going last him for 4-5 years for a extra $500 .. but he cant race it till he's 10yrs
OR have I got it wrong?
Huskygoat |
no you dont have it wrong, but even by the old rules the kid would have had to wait till he was seven and the bike would have to comply as OEM. the change is that previously considered OEM pro-sharks and cobras are now not compatible with the limited class, so if those two brands were purchased (and are more expensive than most regular OEM quads) then yes he has to wait till he's older. however , when making major purchases (and i consider anything over say $4000 a major purchase, but maybe coz i'm poor) it's always good to do your research, and if racing is your plan then research the things that affect racing. personally, as info about pending rule changes was available around august 2010, and being the pauper i am, i wouldnt have shelled out big cash on a bike that didnt comply with my/our intentions |
