The notorious Kamfari mud race celebrates it's 40th year by announcing a new naming rights sponsor for the event with Jason Hill's "Precision Motorcycles" taking on sponsoring the event. The 2011 running of the 4 hour race will be near Black Jungle, just south of Darwin but will be a different course from previous years, it will consist of water crossings, flat sandy areas, loamy bushland and some tight twin trail. Glen Lantzke from Off Road Autos in Darwin, won the Quad section in 2010 on a Yamaha Grizzly 700 with his fast and consistent riding style.
There are several classes in the Quad division, up to 550cc, 551-850cc, Farm Quad (up to 850 only) and a rookie class (for non pro riders only) plus there is an award for fastest Woman which is for the fastest woman on a quad or bike.The Kamfari Director; Clint Holmes states that there is also plenty of prize money up for grabs, $10,000 in total between the bike and quad divisions, $3,000 for the outright bike win and $2,000 for the first outright quad. There is also an award for the Top Crowd Pleaser and all finishers will recieve a momento of the event. Bikes and Quads run on separate tracks within the same area at the same time and the starts for both divisions is 10 minutes apart.
What you need:
Goggles...and you may have a spare set in the pits. Tear offs are not allowed but roll offs OK.
Gloves
Approved helmet, clothing and boots (see sup regs)
Kill lanyard and nurf bars for quads
Oils, fuel, drinks, enviro-mat, fast fueler (if you wish) and a bucket of water with a sponge are allowed in your pits, but no tools spares, tyres or tubes etc. All tools and spares must be carried with you.
How to get there:
Down Gunn Point Road...when you get to the end of the bitumen, it's 4 and a half Kilometres to the turn off. It will be signposted.
Where to stay:
If you are an interstate visitor, please get in touch with the club for billet accommodation or stay at various hotels and Motels around Darwin. Contact Clint on 0408 894127.
Freighting your machine there:
If you are not driving up we suggest using Northline or NQX just to name two. There is also the rail service. There are plenty of club members that will help you here. Again, call Clint.
Sign on and scrutineering:
Will be held at Precision Motorcycles on Berrimah Road, Friday the 29th of April. If you are from interstate and can't make this, please advise us.

Please note the cut off date for mailed nominations. Entry fee's are $180 per bike/quad.
here are some of the things that are specific to the quad division from the supp regs.
21 QUAD RESTRICTIONS
21.1 All quads are restricted to a maximum of 28'' tyres that are available from an Australian Dealer. Tractor style or knuckle tread tyres are allowed but no paddle tyres or tyres with side paddles are allowed
21.2 Winches are allowed
21.3 Kill switch and lanyard must be fitted
21.4 Nurf bars fitted
21.5 Number plates front and rear
21.6 850cc Max engine size for 4 strokes and 550cc for 2 strokes. All must be max 2 cylinders
21.7 Enviro mat must be used under stationary machine when re-fuelling.
The club:
The Darwin Motorcycle club is mainly a family affair and very social. Club membership is $60.00 single and $80.00 family. You can buy a one day membership for the Kamfari for $20.00

Hey, don't I have some kind of say in this?
No I will not be riding.....in the Kamfari, but I am taking a couple of riders up to try out the new Can-am Outlander 800 XMR (Mud Racer), thanks to Territory Marine in Darwin. I really enjoyed it when we went up a couple of years ago, and this year they are back in the mud like old times.

I would do mate but unfortunately we are flying in. It is only a few days after the Thumb Pump 300 ATV Festival so we don't have time to drive up. Otherwise I would have helped out for sure.

Went for a ride out to gunn point.... Just at the moment Kamfari creek is over the banks and flowing fast ....No quad could get over... four weeks to go.... and more rain coming.....

well there all done and on there way to Darwin , i just can't wait for this one, if my quad get through the first mud hole and is water proof then i will be happy. yes i am crapping myself too.

well what a race , still up here in Darwin. this was so much fun but just unlucky . next year i will be back.
I rode into a lake that was 10ft + deep , so my quad went upside down i tried to keep it up right but i couldnt touch the ground ,yes thats right i went under water my life flashed b4 me were are the crocs ,well almost.
i swam to sure dragging the quad when i could touch the ground i flipped my quad over onto its wheels by then another rider toed me out.
i spent hour trying to get the water out and fire it up again but didnt have the right tools with me. then the battery went flat.
still was alot of fun i never got bogged and on my only lap and i found the check point which alot missed some for 3 laps,my helmet cam should have the whole thing. when i get back i will up load it.
quad it now running again , Its on a pallet ready for it to be sent back to SA.
out of 39 quads onlly 11 finished and husky got 8th. well done you old goat.

adventure plus. there is only tape tied to trees and you must be insight of them. no depth gauge just rooky mistake.
there was two parts of the track not 100% marked and i watched husky go right when he should have gone left 18 riders did the same thing.
where i got stuck it just had tape on the trees so i just went into the water the rest is history.
I must have stopped 10 riders on there second lap from drowing there quad. after 2 hour i was working on my quad still i could hear a quad coming but didnt look back think he would have been past b4 but he only just found the check point he wasnt out as far as me and i turned to see the quad and him go under he was trying to keep the front of the quad up but his head went under for a bit, i ran into the water and grabbed the r/r tyre to stop the quad flipping over , he came up and was ok we pushed the quad to the shore and a offical help tow it out. they then taped off that section and changed the track a bit.
he was able to get his plugs out and turn the engine over and about 45mins had it going again, i used some of his tools on my quad but the battery when flat.
we spoke about this after the race and had a laugh.
not over yet.
getting towed back to the pits we missed a section of track and got stuck in the swamp so out can two snatchem straps and his winch , took us and hour to get the 30m back onto hard ground.
after we got back to the pits i had to let the officals know i was out, I wasnt expecting to see a big crowd cheering and clapping at all the rider as they passed the check piont to start there last lap , everyone was coverd in mud (even the chicks), I was shocked to see how chopped up the track was spewin i missed that bit,
it was a blast and i will be back again ,i am hooked now.
I BIG THANKS to husky for letting me stay with him for 7 days picking me up at airport at 2 am and taking me back to the airport at 2:45 am thursday, (had to get the cheap fights)
so if you have a 4x4 farm quad give this race a go just once and you will never forget it . The best thing about this race is anyone can win .
