| Please help me here guys... I dont know what ATV to buy. I have narrowed it down to 2 or maybe 3 models. One is the Kymco MXU300 at $5500. The other is the Yamaha Big Bear 250 at $6850 and maybe if I can justify the price, the Yamaha Grizzly 350 2WD at $1000 more than the Big Bear. Which one would you go for? |

mate your biggest problem (I feel) is that you'll run out of horse power before to long, and I understand you want most bang for your buck to,
a mate of mine has a chinnes 4x4 quad for sale, its one of the better ones, from what I can gather its a hybrid (of sorts) it has the grizzly 4x4 controls, the king quad gear selector, its a factory 2 seater, factory winch and its a 550, I will contact him and find out exactly what brand it is and post up a link to the quad, its for sale and has less than 20 hours on it, he bought itfor his grandson but he's not alowed to use it... the bike is in Geelong Victoria. _________________ 2005 KFX700

Bull i dont mean to get to personal straight of the bat but how old are you? how tall? & your weight? im asking because as yogie has pointed out a person can get sick of low horse power pretty quick & if your an adult a 250 & 350cc quads will not cut it after a certain period of time, one your used to it you will want more then you will find yourself shopping around for another bike. another factor to consider is the value that an ATV drops from new...the sort of $$$ your talking about could get you a tidy 2nd hand 450 sports model or even a larger cc Ag style ATV..i always stick to the main stream brands (my own preference) & lastly you need to buy the right bike for the type of riding you do..hope this helps _________________ 04 TRX 450r

I would go with the Honda, you need i bike that is reliable and you can easily get parts for and modify to give you alittle extra, Chinese quads are ok i have a few friends that have bought them and they end up here for welding repairs, missing bolts etc, then its harder to get parts as well as only a few shops do kymco etc. learn and enjoy on a quad that starts when you want it to and keeps on going also resale is better on brand bikes, chinese bikes might as well give them away. _________________ Darren Colbert

Your budget is $7,850? ($6,850 + $1,000)
Buy a late model second hand quad. Here is an example (I'm not vouching for it as I don't know the person, but the quad looks taking care of).
http://www.ozatv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=17314
There's a few other quads on here for sale and I'm sure if you negotiated you could get them to your budget. _________________ Don't close your eyes during the crash, you'll miss the best part |

good call on the jap quad but dont waste your money on any thing under a 400, you'll kick yourself then be stuck with it , buy a 450 simple as that. _________________ 2005 KFX700

Agree with 450 Work out what you want to do ,race, trails sunday ride with wife or kids then buy the quad in your budget because the jap quad invasion has driven down the price of quads you will get a good buy in your budget just stay to name brands or you will be kicking yourself _________________ Darren Colbert

Yogie, thanks for that, but I have decided that I want to stick to either the Yam or the Honda, for easier and better spares, servicing, etc.
Bi jb, I`m 45, 80kgs and 170cm. I`m only after a small cc quad, because my main use will be taking the dogs out for long walks and use it for hunting. So I`ll only be doing anywhere from 10-40kph. I also intend on keeping it until it dies on me, which will hopefully be for a very long time. A secondhand option sounds good.
Would you guys reckon the Honda is better than the Yam? |

I've heard the same similar stories before about only going to dawdle around and will only need a small capacity motor. It's very strange how the quad bug bites you and before much longer your looking for bigger and better.. If I were advising you I would suggest that you buy nothing under 500cc and it only be from one of the major bike company's.
You may, however, be the exception to the rule and a little quad may do. In any event, stick to one of the major brands. _________________ 2010 Sukuki

Is Holden better than Ford?
Of course Holden is better, but that's my opinion. _________________ Don't close your eyes during the crash, you'll miss the best part |

Agree that 300cc's just won't cut it but I do like the KYMCO brand. If you can get the MXU500 for a resonable price then that is what i would go for.

a 250 yammaha or a honda 250 ag quad is all he needs and will live for ever if looked after.
my olds have had 2 x 250 yammys for the past 15yrs and there both still going strong used on a daily basis around there flower farm.
they will still do 100 kph and have all the features u will want. |

A yammy 250 quad doing 100km/h dangerman? I think it must have been 10.0 km/h. _________________ "If in doubt go flat out"

I was thinking about 80. My chinese 250 would pull about 83 on the flat and all my mates old honda 300's will do between 70 and 80km/h. _________________ "If in doubt go flat out"
