Facts that carry as much weight as the paper they are printed on. there are so many contributeing factors in those ""statistics"" that are never broached aswell as the loosness of the statistics themselves... do people believe this drivle.... unfortunately many do !!
I think the current laws as tough as they are ..... are a reasonable ballance for all the missinformed bleeding hearts out there and the persecuted sporting shooters, mind you the handgun boys have it pretty tough nowadays. Lets hope this crawls back into the mud hole it came out of.

As one of the comments pointed out, 2 years and a couple of grand to get a hand gun and license + the annual charges add up, for someone wanting to do it legal.
And your neighbourhood criminal can pick one up tonight for $300 and get his "money back" @ any small business on his way home!
There has been a flood of anti-gun stories in the media of late. That mud hole is breeding this propoganda. Yuck
At least shooters, like quad riders, are starting to fight back. Very Happy

its amazing how people in these situations can cover an entire topic that has more depth than the general public could fathom with a simple ""statistical summary"".... The irony of the hole thing is most of the other contributing factors such as "mental health awareness" just to name one, are a direct result of the very same public service that fail to take these factors into consideration when evaluateing these alleged ""statistics""

Statistics:..... the means of manipulateing figures to come out with the desired outcome..

just like a questionare that is only asked to a specific demagraphic to manipulate the outcome.,...
Heres a FACT.... Australia has one of the highest native animal exstinction rates out of any country in the world, due largely to the restricted disposal (recreational hunting) of introduced feral pests.

I feel pretty strongly about the whole firearms licensing and laws as it affects me directly. And everything I say is my own opinion on the issue. It is only an opinion and I don't go around forcing it on others. I have been brought up hunting and sport shooting. Does that make me want to massacre people??? No. Guns don't make people want to kill other people. Don't get me wrong I'm sure that they would make it easier. But what a crock of schitt, if some one is hell bent on harming themselves or others, they will. Banning guns will not change the state of their mental health, this article is complete trash and Rebecca Peters, I think you should give yourself an uppercut for spreading this propaganda rubbish. The issue is with the people using guns inappropriately not the firearms themselves. So for eff sake, rather than spend all the taxpayers money trying to ban firearms, why not put all the money, time and effort towards mental health facilities, or, not that it isn't already painful enough, but if they must do somthing than possibly make a mental health assessment part of the whole licensing process. If the shrink tells you you are mentally unfit or pose a risk to others, so be it. I understand that not all firearms are legally obtained when they are used inappropriately, but it's an idea or step in the right direction of making it harder for psychos to obtain guns. It isn't an issue for me that it becomes harder to aquire a license because as with everything it's always the minority ruining it for the majority. The less miss use the better. I'd prefer to have to sit in a room with a shrink for an hour rather than lose the opportunity to go out to the rifle range or go hunting with friends and family. I don't have all the answers and don't pretend to have them, but I do know that banning guns is not the answer.
