Went to Fortlytton MX track on the weekend to see the junior quads race in Brisbane as we have a Raptor 90 and Raptor 125 my kids are aged 9 and 11 and they are pushing me to go racing. However after watching these kids try and race on china bikes and having to push them back to the pits every race I would love to see some Japanese quads turn up that can finish a race so my kids have someone to race with.
I talk to the guy that is the starter there on the gates he has a little girl racing a Proshark 90 which is a nice bit of gear but had some bad luck with his quad but was very helpful. I got his name and number if anyone needs more info. Also the guy Ken at the track is also very helpful he was telling me you don’t need a race licence to race there. |

Hi buddy I too am annoyed at chinese bikes breaking but as a father of a daughter riding these quads, some comments are not welcomed, I mean sure they may break down but after every breakdown, we improve on it so it dosent happen again, after all its about the kids, not us,.we have set this racing up 4 kids to race, on a small budget so families can enjoy watching their kids race, and the kids love doing it as well, the sponsors dont care what the kids ride, so why should anyone else care.
But it sounds like you have bigger budget than most of us, they maybe chinese but the parts are a lot cheaper making it affordible for others,
Its the chinese bikes that has made this happen, but we all have to start somewhere,we might have to look at.buying japanese quads, so its then not a matter of equipment, but ability, and believe me watch my 6 yr old go then
So by all means bring ur kids, and hope they enjoy racimg as much as our kids do |

Shan you are dead right the kids had a ball from what I saw, besides some tears at the canteen from one of the little ones. I did see some of the perents carry on like they where at a footy match.
Dont get me wrong I dont wan't to get off on the wrong foot with you guys because we are intrested in starting to race there in June and will be bringing a my brothers twins on Yamaha's also. But hope when we come it all runs a little smother than it did last weekend. The more that ride the better. As they say racing improves the breed. |

thats cool buddy , i just hope it wasnt me that was yelling , i was doing all the pushing on track, and after the race, i felt like i was the one racing all day , lol
i dont think it will be long and we might have to go japanese, or make some big improvements on these , because these girls are ringing their necks, poor little quads lol.
i some how dont think they were designed to do what these girls are doing, hence why they are breaking down. we have performance improvments for them , but we have to sort the reliability issues out, as all its doing is breaking the hearts of these little girls.
i do agree last week was a mess, but those situations have been rectified for the next race, blame me and kev lol.
look forward to catching up with you at the track with your kids , and i cant wait to see some yamaha power there.
its amazing we started with 4 quads, struggling to get the season going and now we nearly have a full grid. its been a lot of hard work , but its finally paying off. |

Cool
This sport needs more people like you. I can imagine how hard it is to organise racing like this, but I think the parents need to remember it is about the kids and not them. Whether it is a china bike or Jap the kids are still having the same amount of fun. I will definatly see you there in june. |

hi,
this is sort of off topic, but i was wondering whether the fort lytton track is watered on practice days there. I went there once and wasnt happy with the track as it was way too wet and took way too long to clean the bikes afterwards. So if the track is dry i would be happy to come down and have a ride, just if theres a spare gate in the junior class.
thanks, mitch |

Hi mitch
Your are right the track has been very wet in the past some mornings but the guys at the track are now giving us and awsome track to ride on, The best thing you need no license to ride there which makes it a cheaper race day for family's.
Going Back to the track it needs to be watered in the morning like any track. By the second and third round it gets tacky and dusty at the end of the day. If it's not muddy in the morning and just watered it will need to be watered at lunch time and to slippery for the rest of the day. As an experanced racr this is how its done everywhere.
Would love to see you there. Just buy some truck wash CT 18 is the best |

Awsome pic Shannon wouldn't it be great to see some mums and Dads bring there kids out to the track to have some fun with our crew they aren't fast but they ride safe and have fun. After some thought maybe we should have a demonstation class and a competive class that should should make it safer all our kids.
Here is the Fortlytton site for all you mums and dads to have a look at:

I absolutely agree. It's all about the kids and as long they are having fun and stay safe it doesn't matter who crosses the line first.
Our twin girls (now started racing in the 50cc non comp class here in SA last year and absolutely love it. We plan to keep them in this class next year as well. They started on suzuki ltz 50s and after about 3 mths researching bought 2 pro shark 50s. I know that they cost a bit but I sold my quad and a few other things to pay for them. _________________ If you're not having fun, it's not worth doing
