so what does this mean??????????

22.3.0.3 All Junior quads must retain OEM engine
cases and frames, see 22.4.1.4 for
exceptions.

22.3.0.4 Reducing the capacity of larger machines
or changing engines to suit the class
capacity is not permitted

22.4.1.4 Where in Junior competition, the words
OEM standard or Limited are used,
all quads must be OEM machines with
no modifications. OEM type engine
replacement is accepted (or other
standard parts). Any engine or part
must be a direct bolt in replacement
with identical engine mounting points
and using standard OEM frame engine
mounts.

so a ktm 250f bolted into a ktm 450 frame
the 450 is a OME frame they use the same engine mounts???????

It is pretty hard to write rules so that someone who goes to great lengths to find or create an example of an exception is covered.
When rules do need to be written this way, they become unreadable and contain piles of attachments, appendixes and clauses.
MA don't work this way, essentially they own the rules and they offer any final interpretation of the rules.
Our racing should not be about finding the smallest little loop hole to get around the obvious intention of any rule, and i think the intention in this example is quite clear.
If you are thinking of creating such an example (none exist at present), perhaps it is good advice to first 'ask' MA.

Great idea though, but 22.3.0.4 covers this.
You would be reducing the capacity of a larger 'machine' AND "changing engines to suit the class capacity"... so a definite No (my interpretation anyway).

Hard to believe but in 2 wheel form with a pipe and jetting that's the horse power that they are getting.
The new apex250f which uses a yz 250f motor has 37 hp at the back wheels.
Big bore kit ,cams etc and they are into the high 40's and 20kg lighter than a 450 motor.
I think that it has to do with the fact that they rev well past 12000 rpm.

yeh but never happens like that though the 2011 kx450f makes 54hp 38flbs stock but by the time it found it self in a quad frame it lost 15hp with there sh!tty cams and crap intake, the 2011 kx250f makes 36 hp @19 ftlbs of torque hardly a match for it big brother so 40hp stock is hard to swallow by the time it will find its self in a quad frame which I doubt will happen, even if it did most kawasaki quad owners first swap out are the crap cams in the kfx be hard to think kawasaki will still have it turning 12k in a quad form as for big bore kits the kfx450 make high 60's and mid 40ftbls with a kit so 20 kgs mean sweet FA

as for the 2011 yzf 250 makes 35hp and 19 foot pounds and the yfm250r is rated in the mid 20's I wonder what yamaha would do if kawasaki did put the kx250 engine in a quad would probably smoke the 250 yam quad eek

Hi,

yfm250 stock are lucky to make 20hp.

Apex 250f is quoted at 35-37hp at the rear wheels. So they keep the same hp in quad form.[The big 4 de-tune to suit a variety of riding situations]

Big bore kit I was refering to a 290cc kit with cams etc.

The comparisons that I was making with regards a 450 was that at 20kg lighter and similar hp the 250 would be reasonably quick.

This is to do with junior classes.

I agree that its very doubtful that a major manufacturer would build a true performance 250cc quad.

Thats pretty much imposable there is no way a quad will make the same rear wheel hp as just for starters its got to turn 3 times more weight with the rear axle and tyres its just isn't as efficient as a 80kg mx bike. when you throw in the weight of the quads 19flbs isnt going anywhere near the 38flbs a 450 makes the more weight the more that effects things. 20kgs is pretty much the difference if I dropped a turd the night before so I wouldn't get to excited about a kfx250 taking on a 450 race quad any time soon and we dont see to many stock 250 mx bikes out performing there 450 mx bike big brothers Smile

At the 2010 Qld state titles Daniel Middleton ,who won the 12-16 yr junior class would have placed 3rd in the intermediate class based on his best time. He was riding a trx300ex.
Alot depends on the rider not just the bike.

I remember going to Black duck when Luke Nixon pick up his raptor 250, i couldnt match his pace.....
250 rider with skill.
450 rider with very little skill.

Give me a turbocherged hyabusa in a ltr frame, i still would catch him......
