 |
|
| Hi all, I have just put on a white brothers mx4 muffler on my yfz450.I have also installed the pilot jet(45) and the main jet(168)both came with the pipe and also the K&N air filter, When the bike is running the header pipe is almost glowing red hot (with in 2 mins) But when I go up and down the street it seems to cool down. Then at idol hot again. The bike runs well but I am concerned about the header pipe being to hot and doing damage to the motor. Maybe its to lean?? Any thoughts would be appreciated .Also should I run the bike with the lid off or on (air filter)Regards Shane |

the header glowing is normal for the YFZ's to a point, particularly at idle. How far up the pipe does it glow?
you can run the lid on or off either way you need to jet it to suit.
45/168 is in the ballpark for the stock filter setup.
are you getting any backfiring or popping on decelleration? |

the popping is from being lean..easy fix
where have you got your fuel screw set at? its the screw under the carb bowl.
that should be around 1.5-2.5 turns.
you might want to try a 48 pilot and lifting your needle a clip or 2 if its still the stock one
EDIT: is your K&N just a replacement filter or a pro-flow setup with the new flange and big filter? |

if it did it with the stock filter too then you definatly need to adjust your fuel screw, if you get past 2.5 turns and it still pops you'll need to go to a 48 Pilot as Adam has suggested. _________________
