| We got them underground and have dramas with the alternators carking it cause they are located very low in the enginebay and we have a bit of water pooling up down there but that is extreme usage, got a few mates who have em and haven`t any dramas yet. |

My old faithful '88 HJ75 was murdered a while back. Ol' man drove it around for half a day with the big end gone.........sounded like a washing machine full of hammers when he got back to the sheds. I don't like the new 'cruisers and have more spares than the average 4wd wrecker. So I got an ex FESA fire ute complete with Red Fury colour sceme. 1990 model with 80,000k's on the clock and in immaculate condition cost me 10K ex auction.
But for the Effy lovers, a mate of mine has this for sale.

| Have heard of a few dramas with the Starter motor on V8 Diesel cruisers.. apparently they are located in the centre of the V, and the factory recomended time to change the starter is 16.5 hours.. I hear mine operaters are not happy |

this advice is right on the money, and at around$800 per injector, you'll want to be looking after them
as for the oil consumption, it's not the rings.
theres a toyota campain regarding oil consumption in 70 series v8's as well as 200 series. each has a different issue. the 70 is an oil feed pipe concealed in the sump that needs a gasket, and the 200 series usually needs a vacuum pump.
according to toyota, australia has the worst diesel in the world, and i guess at some locations this is likely, ie remote areas. we've seen some very stuffed injectors and on quizzing the owners find that it is either filled at a rural low turnover outlet or overhead tank on the farm, and with mining vehicles, often filled from the tank that the machinery is filled from.usually mounted on the back of a truck , or the very toyota we are talking about, the machinery has aftermarket filters fitted for this reason, but the toyota is expected to run the same fuel through oem filtration

i've only ever replaced 0ne starter on a v8 cruiser, it was a petrol 100 series and had 160,000kms. . a guy i know uses a 70 series ute to take water readings for a mining operation. stop start all day long, just like caravan park maintenance vehicles, the vehicle can do 200 starts a week and only travel 5000km in a year |

i'm from kalgoorlie
and warranty on a new hilux or v8 doesn't mean any thing here
toyota will spin any load of cr#p to get out of fixing it on warranty
i had a customer with a hilux 12500 km had an injector fail was gonna cost him $3500 to fix
apparently it had fuel contamination when he asked for a sample to take it to be tested all of a sudden it was covered by warranty
i've even had a guy tell me he had metal flakes in his fuel filter when he replaced it he went to toyota to ask why and was told it was from the filler hand piece when he was filling the car with fuel yer right
and a little birdy told me also the the main bearing material is wrong and they may spin the bearing over 70000km in the 1VD v8
if there is such a problem with the fuel over here how come nissan,mitsubishi and other common rail cars arn't having the same problems with injectors _________________ TRX 400 ex 2005/crf450r 2004 Hybrid

I own a 200 series v8 diesel , it covers all sorts of terrain and tows all manar of stuff quite regular has just clocked 100,000 k's
Havent had any problems with it at all , part from the wife reversing into skip bins
Uses a bit of oil but no top up needed between services
Maybe i got lucky for a change and the rest of them are sh1t
What do you reckon , just puttin some facts out there ! |

| had nothing wrong with my 70 only bad news on the 200 with stalling when you back off the auto. i seen it happen on the perth freeway 200 stopped in peak hour in the right hand lane with no emergency stoping lane, as you need to put a 200 in park and step on the brake to restart |
