A good insurance broker should be able to set you right Dave.
Unfortunately, insurance is a business, and a dirty rotten one at that. _________________ Remember. We elect politicians, but we have to deal with bureaucracy.

howdy, i just happen to be in a dispute with income protection insurance.
i will post some info next couple of days. full of traps. a good broker should help, thats true. life insurance is only good when you die,you can't access it if needed and no good to you ,only your family.

Sorry Dave, a lot of brokers in Qld have stopped answering their phones.
And Gazman is spot on about them being fair-weather friends.
I won't hijack your thread with how crook they are, but I'll offer the following.....
You disclose the truth and you're RS, don't disclose and you'll be RS in spades. A win/win for the company.
Seeing as a big part of MA is sourcing insurance, maybe they can help.
So reassuring that quad prejudism is universal. _________________ Remember. We elect politicians, but we have to deal with bureaucracy.

Dave,
The amount of cover available was proportional to what you paid.
I had no joy with my IP. One mob, 8 weeks after accepting me, then advised me that they would only cover about 15% of any injuries, based on previous injuries and work experience. They refunded in full, but only after I made a stand.
Qld workcover, state owned, is not any better. They will all take your money, but unless your name is Akmed.........
As far as work injuries go, being careful is probably the best advice.
Generally speaking, I'm over insurance companies and brokers, and when push has come to shove, it was me getting shoved. I work for myself, and, ironically, one of my major clients is a fix-it man for the insurance companies.........1st hand observations, not good.
Short version of most insurance companies is don't pay or pay short, and blame the client for not having suitable understanding/policy. It is only about the numbers. Ka-ching, ka-ching, ka-ching! And barristers get results. Same noises..........
Good luck with it Dave. _________________ Remember. We elect politicians, but we have to deal with bureaucracy.

Hey mate I have coverage with wage guard here in Queensland for income protection insurance and made a claim at the beginning of November last year and they worked it off my average income for the last twelve months, including overtime and they paid me in full without too much hassle for my time off work. As you would expect they required a medical certificate and a 2 week waiting period from the time of injury and what not. It costs me about $25 a week but after actually needing it (only went back to work this week) I will never go without insurance again. _________________ Some days I'm just all thumbs...... |

peace of mind till im 65 pretty much.
and i know insurance companies are bastards.... seen work deal with them in reguards with smashed up spray planes....
but just checking what my options are. i'm relativly young right now so if something happens its a long time waiting around to kick the old bucket. (my old house mate had a bike accident and is in a wheel chair, so i know it can happen) _________________ ltr450 with un-broken stuff

I use combined and they are not to bad you can cover family also which helps, when my Mrs broke her foot they paid us out but there is always lots of paper work, they always call trying to sell you something else or upgrade your policy so i just said if you call me again i will cancel my policy and its great i don't hear from them anymore - JUST REMEMBER THEY ARE YOUR BEST MATES UNTIL YOU SIGN THAT PAPER SO DONT LET THEM SELL YOU SOMETHING YOU DONT NEED. _________________ What would you know i read it on a forum it must be true ha ha |

I have my IP through my Super and it covers me for most - as long as it is trails not racing. Although my finance guy that set it up flies light planes and he cannot get cover while flying. Lots of loops and hurdles and the like.
As in the threads you need to shop for what you want and make sure the fine print is ok. _________________ 660R mine

Yeah, you are right about Combined trying to sell you other policies Luke. I got sick of it untill i abused the turkey who rang me as i was hanging off a high-rise balconey at the time.Next day the QLD manager visits me to check it out.I told him it was illegal to solicit new business over the phone and i will inform the ACCC. "Well, uummm, yes I know that " he says. "So you won't ring me anymore then? " I said. I haven't been annoyed since.
Remember,Combined is accident only,not sickness.

I have full life insurance. Needed it to get a large loan. Plus I think it would be wrong to leave my family with a large debt.
I fully disclosed all my quad racing and they had no problems with it. But I do use a broker.
PM me if you want the brokers details. _________________ When I'm racing I'm living..... everything else is just waiting. |

Well i have just had my case heard and its a "no go".You are right about the"blame the client for not understanding policy" etc Dino.I will not name YET but i will soon.I used the banks financial adviser.I said i wanted to get
X amount a week.No probs said adviser. The GFC comes along and very little work for 2 years . I cop a bad back and make a claim .Now they want pay me 40% of X.
I said" where is the rest?" In the policy it states that you will be paid 75%
of what you earned the last 2 years.No-one told me that, even though i paid full premiums for the last 4 years. They said "its all in the policy"
I said,"i am not a finance/insurance expert, this is why i paid you to sort it out".By the way,the commision payed to said expert was about $3200.
Then they hide behind "my ignorance".I am not stopping there. The insurance Ombudsman is next stop.
Word of caution.if you are looking at a policy, you DO NOT want an " indemnity "policy. The word is "gauranteed"policy.
