with a couple of rule changes being made to the Quad Section of the MA 2007 manual of motorcycle sport, without consultation to the NQAC the question needs to be asked why does it exist?

2 new changes for this year are the body armour rule to incorporate full back protectors and elbow guards, and a capacity change for Dirt Track and Super Moto quad classes bringing the 500 class down to 450.

Who really wanted to see these changes made that we couldn't be consulted about them officially and with enough notice to voice the opinion of the quad riding community.

National Quad Advisory Committee - the key word is Advisory, if MA don't want advice on any particular item they want changed, they are not going to ask for it. If MA consider that the changes they are about to implement will enhance the level of safety offered to a rider they wont ask for advice as to whether the riders are comfy or not. There are certain operating criteria that the underwriters of the insurance provided to MA are insistant on and if rule changes need to take place to comply with those criteria then the rules will be changed without consultation of the participants of the sport. Otherwise there probably wouldn't be any insurance available, because everyone will want to be able to ride in stubbies, T shirt and thongs (the footwear kind not the lingerie kind)
That's how I understand it

OK so why do 2 wheel MX riders not have to wear body armor at all but our rules keep getting chaged to be more restrictive. The point I'm making is I'm on this bloody committee and I only find out about changes when the rule book comes out.

Things like the body armor rule should be discipline specific not an overall rule for quads. i.e. for super motard you have to wear full leather so of course you do if you ride a quad in SM too but it doesn't need to say that in the quad section does it....the only rules in the quad section should be quad specific like the definition of a quad and the assosiated parts needed to race one.

As for the capacity change I can't see how that can be insurance related so why didn't it come before the NQAC?

If this is going to continue maybe we do need our own commission or our own national governing body like ATVA in the US that will listen to it's members and advisiors about rule chages.

pete, what I know about the mx and that sort stuff could fit on a pin head and still have room to sign your name, but I do know that the problem is the MA, full stop. look what happened to the FOHVA, that was quad based body that was moving and the MA promised heaven and earth to help it out and make a better deal for us, yeah bloody right.

rant over... No hold on theres more, things will never change, they have the power and wont let quads get an even match with two wheelers full stop and that starts I feel from the top, manufacturers, racing bodies you name it. Stuff them all go trail riding instead.

this time rant over....

yeah definantly over. Mad Mad Mad Mad

Yogie, we need people like you IN MA to make a change for the better. Use that fire in your belly for good instead of evil. Not that I think your evil, just a figure of speech. Cool

With the way it is read for the body armour - you require a "BUTT PLUG" to hold your armour in place, it will have to be fasten to your analsphickter by this plug as that is the exact end of you spine, and should your full body armour move up and down whilst you are racing or moving side to side to manouvre your bike around a course and happens to knock your helmet forward and block your vision which would then require you to remove your hand to move your helmet back in place so you can see what the hell your doing, you lose control and crach does "Duty of care" then come into play??? Common sense has not pervailed in this case, or the proof reader of the GCR's has not done his job and in every discipline the rules have become a "Hit and Miss" affair.

Majority of your back = 51%

Everyone interprets the GCR's differently - whats the chances of some-one reading it the same as I do (well some-one in authority at a race meet that is) thats where its needed.

Hey Q67DAZZA, we begged for ages to get the nippers in. We have always run them in SA and so has Vic. They are one of our strongest classes, and having the little tackers out there having a ride brings out the parents, who often have a ride as well. What better way to get the kids involved in this family sport, plus don't forget that we run all of our trail rides under MA as well, so no nipper race class, no nipper trail riding. You tell the 10 or so kids that come to the dunes camping for a long weekend that they cant ride, even though we always have 2 coaches on hand helping them out.

I've been using one of those BUTT PLUGS for a while now. Actuly Pete and Mick got it for me off Big Dog when he was mooning them out of the truck window when they were in Perth, who would of thought that we were the sime size ha ha ha

Anything where Quad riders get a say is a good thing, sounds like maybe things did not happen as expected this time but the last thing needed is for the QAC to implode cause of bitching.
Best to put it behind and try and get it right next time.

Hey Pete, I was of the understanding that the advisory committee was trying to improve the dirt track classes?

I think the open class and a 450 class is only good for our sport. Gives riders a choice of two classes (can you frikkin believe that) and trys to address the power miss match that was occuring between "80 odd" HP modified Raptors/Banshees and "50 odd" HP four fiddies on a dirt track.

Lets face it, the 450 class is where all the Yank money and effort is going and as a result the big four Jap manufacturors have 450 race quads and there are more come. So it did seem a bit silly to have a "500" hundred class just to suit one model. sorry polaris guys.

IMHO A Predator/(525ktm)/Outlaw is probably more matched up to Raptors, Banshees, KFX700s, and 650 Bombardiers in many respects anyway. As in; weight, designed use, and potential HP from mods. It may be a pain in the ought for all those suspiciously high performing "Stock" 450s out there to get back down into their own class again but if its too much hassle just stay in the open class dudes.

Its a bit of a shame that one of the mini quads classes couldn't hit the majic 125cc limit but theres always next year I suppose.

Cheers Big Ears

MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY.........i have a 502cc yfz, only to make up for what i lack in ability, but 450cc class......great news. As for polaris riders well you can detune it as i NSW rider is in the process of putting in a 440 kit, he rather race this class than compete againts 100HP banshees.
Next race i'll be there with a true 450cc quad ! ( might just learn to ride faster)

it is always going to be the rider no matter what.
the bike assists. Paul Worth is a good example
i can't wait, i would have to admit i was a bit daunted by competing against the others with there big bores and work done. but not so much of that anymore. just have to get me self some leathers and some tyres.
