Good Afternoon All,
Im sure i am not the only Victorian that has been struggling desperately to find places to ride! It was only luck that i somehow found my way to this great website.
http://www.mototrailsoz.com.au
Have a look through it, well i think its great.
Oh and as a reward can anyone tell me with 100% certainty that Quad bikes (utility) can or cant be Recreational Registered.
Thanks[/b] |

I ride most weekends. I try and keep away from populated areas etc.
Most times If the cops get you It is because someone has made a complaint in which they have to act. In most cases they'd prefer not too.
I don't like taking other people with me that much as I feel responsible If they have a crappy ride and some are not as good as others because I do a bit of exploring sometimes and have no idea where I'm going. I'd hate to have someone travel a couple of hours for a ride just to end up disappointed.
I'm in the process of putting some loops together but riders will need to ride at their own risk and cop it on the chin if they end up with a fine for the day.
Seems OK for the leader of the Liberal party to ride a Quad off road, even without a helmet, Sheeesh!
The fine for no reg in Vic is $300.00 for under 500cc and $500.00 for over 500cc but they will always try and give you the $500.00 fine so don't fall for that.
If you have a car licence that should cover you as a Quad has 4 wheels which means it falls under the same category as a car, (but don't quote me on that, It's just my opinion so it might be a good idea to check).
If I end up with a fine It wouldn't worry me as much as long as I had a great days riding. You'd spend $300.00 to attend most MX meets IMO.
The liability if you hurt someone is my biggest worry.
The Government needs more revenue but still seem to want to discriminate against Quads riders . I think the stats for Quad injury's would have a lot to do with it but they need to take into account that most injury s are from farmers who get very over confident on their Quads and don't even wear helmets in most cases.
I would imagine they'd sell a lot more Quads in Vic if you could get rec reg which would amount to more jobs as well.
Rant over!

Well the footage I saw he had no helmet on!! not even an open face helmet. I'm getting old but my eye sight is perfect.
Maybe in some of the footage he had a helmet on but not in all the footage.
I'm not sure what state it was he was riding in, but some states you don't have to wear a helmet on a Trike as they are perceived as a car. That could be why you didn't hear from Kevin.

It was in the Northern Territory. I've not seen any footage of him using a helmet either. General consensus of the media is that it's just been a` photo opportunity at every turn. From the "nearly killed by runaway truck" to "lost in the outback", the whole performance is smoke and mirrors affairs.
Mind you, if this clown, or any of the others, have the guts to pull the EPA into gear, and give all of us off-roaders a fair go, I'll personally buy that person a helmet. _________________ Remember. We elect politicians, but we have to deal with bureaucracy.

Welcome to the Nana State .
Did you see a chick in a shopping mall car park left her doors unlocked, The cops were waiting for her and in the words of the media pounced when she returned to her car and gave her a $365.00 fine for not locking her car doors. A World gone mad .

The idiots would be better off "pouncing" on the scum that would steal stuff out of an unlocked car not her. But no, that would take to much effort for them. _________________ "If in doubt go flat out"

Hi IRS525, How are you going with the loops? Also, do you allways wear a helmet? even if you go exploring at a slow pace and in regards to the fine's, do you loose points of your licence when you get caught, have you ever been caught?? |

this threads over a year old bloke, but in regards to getting booked, its one of those things, yeah it happens but it depends on wher you go and if you broadcast your rides, good luck any way, and if you want to organise a ride, do it via the PM here. _________________ 2005 KFX700

| Thanks for the replies guys. Not losing any points of your licence is a relief. Getting caught and a $300.00 fine is money well spent for a fun day out. In the last 10 years of riding trailbikes around Victoria I have never come accross police and maybe only once saw a ranger. I hope to pick up my ATV next week and hope to head for some sand the other side of Dimboola in a couple of weeks when it dries out a bit. Drive into the nat. park with the car, unload and go for a ride. Anyone keen to join please pm me. Midweek is good for me. Ben. |

I think most people around the country would agree that Nat Park is a no no but State Forest is ok.

I dont know about the losing points bit.
I think that is up to how the officer charges you.
for example...
My mate was charged for speeding at 150kmh in a 100 zone, and only wore a fine.
At over 40kmh above the speed limit, he could have suffered a loss of license, but that's only if the cop adds the charge of speed dangerous.
Then it would be off to court for your license back.
So my mate was only charged for the speeding, and 3 points.
Under most hoon laws, any vehicle 'sideways' can be classed as dangerous driving, so I imagine it would depend on the cop.
Don't the Victorian cops still just shoot first ?
I supose after that they would do a rego check. _________________ Can-Am X Team

state parks are open to all users, and even those whom flout the law in some circumstances... But Nat parks, they will throw the book at you and every other thing that they can if they see you and catch you, I stay away from them myself, but thats me, and I wouldnt admit I ride in them anyway. _________________ 2005 KFX700
