Mate recieved a $1000 fine from cops for riding illegally in connondale forest (up over the Maleny Hill on sunshine coast ) today.

The cops were waiting for them all when they came back from their ride , blocked in their tow wagons and sat writing fines for them all.

Not good all this cop interest.

Prokiwi -

Bugger...... Had to happen to someone some where sooner or later!! I'm sure you can easily convey our sentiment to your mate from all us fellow ATV'ers who are out there harming no-one just trying to have fun with our toys which we all paid tax on to buy and all paid tax on for the fuel they run on and paid tax on the vehicles we use to take em out riding and paid tax on the fuel for those vehicles too...so on and so on!!!

Doesnt add up does it ?????

Even if we dont ride em the government seems to get a cut one way or another.

Cross off Connondale and Kingston then, for now hey!

I was gunna go to the Maleny bike swap meet too....Boycot!!

REDTED-

Its rude to not share.......LOL

hey guys, i know this is dumb but seeing as its so hard for me to get a ride in because of transport i gave my quad a little spin up the street Wink (helmet on) after 5 mins i came inside but had noticed a woman staring at me the whole time. half an hour later there was a copper on a bike waiting at the top of the hill which i expect would have been for me if i had continued to ride. that scared me enough that i 'Probably' wont do it again. i was that scared he was gunna come nocking on doors. in fact i dont know why he didnt Hrm if i were to be caught i would expect a fine like the other bloke. i crapped my self. Sad

Dan , probabally not a good idea to upset the neighbours too much , the cops are always looking for an opportunity to book people for having fun.
Unfortunately out in the forests there are always people getting hurt and in some cases killed. There was one a couple of weeks ago in Caboolture. ( two wheeler)

I still say its important we are seen to be good respectful riders and do everything we can to promote the sport without gaining more enemies.

If ever there is an organised ride , we should all do what we can to support it as this is the only way we will get regular riding places.

In New Zealand it started out this way 10 yrs ago with the country schools organising rides through local farms , it grew substantially to the point where all the local schools wanted some of the "fundraised funds" that were on offer. It was not uncommon to get 400 quads at a ride.
Now there are rides every weekend .

Food for thought.

I have been considering for a while putting an advertisment into Queensland Country Life Magazine for property owners who may be willing to let responsable ATV riders use their land for riding. In return the ATV riders could make a small "donation" towards drought relief directly to the farmer.
Main issue with this is that we dont want to have to travel to far to get there and most properties within 2 hours of any metro area are to small.

I often ride on a property near Texas that borders on 25,000 hectares of state forest. In the 6+ years that I have been going there i have never even seen another vehicle let alone Police in the Forrest. The problem is that it's 3.5 hours from Brisbane.

3.5 hours ---- im in
i know there has been other camp over rides organised in the past that have never got off the ground --- would your texas location be an option for one such social outing?
im starting to get the feeling there are more and more quad riders in QLD that are not into MX and are happy to just ride bush trails
if you sit on ipswich road on a sat/sunday you could see anythig upto 15 to 20 quads on utes (and that includes 4x4 quads)
i think if we could get the ball rolling with a good location and with out the (really nice person) factor we could get somthing of the ground ------- just need a location that will alow 2 to 3 days of riding and access for supply vehicles and i think we are away
i also think we would find most guys will travel up to 4-5 hours for a full weekend of riding

i would put my hand up to asist in the organisation of any such event and am shore my wife would be happy to drive a support vehicle

dose any one else have any ideas??????????????

thanks daniel

Huge,

The property I go to is owned by good friends and own a caravan that is permanently left there. The problem is that they are happy for me to come out and stay but I dont believe that this invitation would be extended to people that they dont know (understandably.) I do believe that there is a property out there called "Arcot Station" that is open to the public and has shearers quarters that are available for hire. That might be a good option?

Gents , There is someone already trying to get this exact thing happening currently.

Darryl Petch ( some of u may know him) is currently trying to organise a patch of forest /land near Crows Nest that is suitable for this exact thing.

Darryl has two Manufacturers keen to support a "quad bike " only trail park out there. The landowner is very supportive also.

I believe the idea needed $4.5k as Insurance money and they are ready to go.
It is my intention to help Darryl and the team get this off the ground. My only problem is time at the moment.

If anybody wants to help make this happen , send me a PM and i will put you in touch with Darryl.

Daniel , I agree there are many people who would be keen to support this idea.

I myself would be happy to lease a piece of dirt ( big piece) if it meant I had a place to ride every weekend .
Maybe if enough of us got together we could lease our own sandpit. !!!

Food for thought.

prokiwi ----- is that only $4500??
that must be reachable -- what could we do to help?

gothev8 ---- we understand about the owners ----- are you keen to get a ride going?? in some other location? (no racing just ridding)

here we have some legal options below
(keep in mind if we could organise something mid week with lots of notice for riders we could book out the whole park and peg out and enduro type track)

manar park - kingaroy/gayndah area = 13000 acres with 300km of tracks

springbrook farm - near manar park = 4000 acres

glen echo park - woolooga

the farm - blackbutt 640 acres

glendon station - warwick = 1600 acres

arcot station - texas = 6000 acres

emu creek - ?????????? = ???????????? about 4 hours (in NSW)

thanks daniel

I am keen but I doubt I would be able to do anything until after Easter. Maybe we should poll the Qld section to see if anyone is interested in doing a ride. It may also be worth while taking a short trip to the short listed places to gauge their suitability?

Is Darryl Petch back on the scene, what great news for you QLDer's, this guy is a gun and after being left to wither and die after the MA/FOHVA debarcle, good on him, doubt if he'll remeber me but tell I said hello, great ambassador for this sport.
So all you QLDer's get behind this bloke and chuck in your bucks, and he'll do right by the lot of you. But help him and yourselves out.

Anglesea is enter at own risk, the cops live there, I'm sure of it, the ottways is a pure gold in the wet, has been logged a lot at Forrest way, but the few times I've been spotted by the rangers and on one ocassion he even chatted and said to be careful, the main greif that way is two wheelers to loud and too stupid. But yeah its nice up there, and bloody dry, always good for a wet spot up there, but not latly.

Yogie , thanks for the support of Darryl ,

Darryl is based in brisbane and ive been trying to get down there during the week to catch up .

Daniel , yes it is only $4500 , its not the money , its the organisational skills that need some help with , Apparently things are ready to go and the Manufacturers are ready to front the money , just nobody has actually committed yet. (chicken and egg stuff)

Maybe as u are based in brisbane you could talk to Darryl .
There is no point reinventing the wheel on this one if someone is already to go ....... The site at Crows Nest sounded awsome .

Daniel - Ill PM u some details.

Im keen to ride any trails anywhere anytime ( weekends preferred though , some of us have to work )

Dan - keen to see u out there too mate , get that towbar fitted asap eh !

Well done guys- its starting to sound like we have a bit of interest in getting a group for trail riding together. I think part of the problem is we dont know the exact numbers of people interested and then on a ride-by-ride basis what we are all up for. As we all know facilities already exist where we can pay to go- but what we need is something we own as this Darryl is trying to make happen. If we have this much common interest among us why dont we gun for a club?? We sound like a club talking about this stuff but we arent!!

At the moment we all are trying to make a bit of this or that happen. Strength in numbers hey- if we all pull together in one direction we can get results much quicker......Thats what clubs do!!!

As a club we could have insurance (as opposed to a keen individual taking the heat for eveyone) along with a permanent lease on a property somewhere.

Along with that comes recognition of who we are and what we stand for!!

Corporate interest and so on....

There needs to be a clear indication of who's guna pay for what, where it is, what the layout is and delegation of organisation (people given the power to make decisions for the others concerned, for all to be happy with).

No amount of money or forum chit chat is going to make up for the fact we all arent represented by a club. Doesnt have to be in direct competition with any other existing moto/x clubs or the like but just to have our own identity as trail riders on ATV's in a non competitive gathering (save for organised enduro's- we'll get to that later as I know for a fact some of us trail riders are keen for the odd enduro trail ride to test man and machine for a day) environment to be sound in the knowledge we are insured and not in breach of the law as was the case for this original thread.

Are any of you in a club alredy such as QQRA? If so would they consider an affilliation with a group of trail riders?? We do all have a common interest at the end of the day be it to race or trail ride etc.. So as I said before strength in numbers.

The moto/x scene has always found it easy to get representation as these facilities often are shared with 2-wheelers which has good backing all the way historically- again strength in numbers.. 2-wheel guys helping out 4-wheel guys in turn helping out 2-wheel guys.

To stand alone will be tougher than an affiliation but we need our own identity to get what we all want from our efforts.

For example if I take my quad and the wife's quad and the kids quads I'm up for shitloads of expense for a weekend at one of our pay as you go facilities. Personally I would rather channel that funding into something more suitable and if you add up the cost over the course of the year multiplied by the number of equally commited riders (or club members) we could easily afford any property without it being a profitable bussiness venture. We all have made significant ivestments to own quads and I dont think we need to keep on paying large sums each weekend we feel the need for some octane fueled exitement. As is the case often for those in a club you get a key and under the appropriate circumstances (at the right time- not during or pre-race week) you can unlock the gate and go practice without paying anymore than you already did to the club in the first place!!!

Sorry it its such a long reply guys but I could just keep going......

So in short I propose:

QUAD MUSTER!! (like ute muster- get together and show off your machines and talk about the scene)

No Quad no circle work????
Wrong forum??
Was serious about Quad Muster tho!!

Regards

can you here that >>>>>>>thats the voice of quad riders

prokiwi -- i will phone darryl from work tomorow to find out where he is at

rapshee -- you have some fair points but from my point of view my wife and i ride quads and my 2 kids ride two wheelers
so for me a quad only park would provent me from enjoing my sport with my family (for me this is not an option)

ok every one if i was to orginise say 600 acres with miner facilitys and some all terrain type tracks (loops) hill climbs and scenic rides do you think we would get the numbers to support it

i will contact the owner of the land tomorow to see if its possible then i will post a new thread in the qld section of this forum with a date say 7 to 8 weeks away to give people time to arrange the weekend off and i will ask a cover charge that will need to be paid two weeks in advance this would go to the owner (there would be no insurance) it would be ride at own risk

do you think we will get a genuine showing of numbers if this was possible

if this worked and we got the support we needed i would then bush hard along side this darryl guy and any one else thats got the balls to get this project off the ground ---- thanks daniel

can I make a suggestion, not knowing how legal it is but there are other parks that provide a indemity forms, why not get one and add your farmers name and get that signed off by the riders.

I AM NOT SURE HOW LEGAL THIS IS SO ANY BRAINIACS OUT THERE PLEASE ADVISE WETHER GOOD OR BAD IDEA.
