Thats not what your Mum said when she was making me breaky the other day.
Anyway I think the TRX700 is an awesome offroad quad but if you want to hit the MX track she might be a bit of a handfull _________________ Smitty |

Brad it's a bit off topic but I was super happy with the 700 and yeah there is things I would change for next year but only small stuff like wiring and mufflers and stuff. I'm running the 11" rims and are happy them I'm using the Kenda Kutters on the rear and only used 2 pair for the whole of safari. Give me a ring if you want more info. _________________ Smitty |

thanks for those with useful posts. im now tossing up between the polaris 525 irs or the honda trx700xx.
from those whove ridden them what kind of money needs to be spent on them to make them more capable for enduro races such as gassy and finke... |

you will proberbly spend about the same money on both bikes.
i know the polaris 525 in and out so this is what i did to race something like, Finke, Gas Dash, TP 300. you can plus or minus anything but you might loose some speed.
even though we are factory riders, i don't go and spend big $$ on things that are not needed. everything on our bikes is needed for a reason and you can buy it off the shelf and there are no bling parts.
polaris Nerfs
polaris Heelguards
polaris bumper
standard filters are real good, just run an outwear
precision steering Dampner (a must brand and type up to you)
Lonstar A-arms +1.25inch (brand and type up to you)
Fox Float evols LT front (brand and type up to you)
Fox Podium rear LT (not to many options here but i found the standard rear shocks on the IRS not up to speed as they have no extra canister, just ask scooter how much a difference these made when i lent a set to him this year at finke)
9 inch rear DWT offset beadlocks and front bead locks (standard rear rims are 10 inch and narrow offset, by bringing the rear offset out you match the front +1.25 inch a-arms, beadlock not neccsary but i wouldnt' do without them)
HMF pipe, slip on only as no company benifits in increase HP on the RFS engine by adding a header.
Flexx bars (the standard bars do not cut it)
kill switch
Hand guards, (need these for finke as i learnt fromt the first year with a cracked finger from a CR 500 roost)
Good tyres, Kenda, Maxxis etc 21s rear, 23-22 front on standard engine, you can go bigger if you have more HP.
engine setup is not needed as a 525 can run standard but this is what i do.
540 kit, barrel by electrosil Wisco 540 piston, KTM head gasket 540
vortex ignition a needed accessory to get an extra 1000 rpm, you really notice the difference.
slight clean up on head, 30 min job.
15 tooth front sproket, with standard rear and 22 inch rear tyre, good for 132kph this year.
thermo fan mod to run 100% of the time.
we don't run the extra oil as we don't have an issue with it. maybe something to look at though.
IMS 13 litre gravity fed fuel tank, (rids the fuel pump and gravity feeds and adds an extra 2.8 ltrs approx extra)
as for the prices on all this to give you my finke setup, i can't say as i am not in the quad parts business. Luke Beechey has sold a fair few of these setups to people of the year and he could offer a full setup cost or part cost.
remember the 540 engine is problerbly the last thing you would do. we are pushing for the win and Luke and i place very well and have stiff competition in enduros, so the extra HP is a easy and reliable one on the Outlaw IRS, alot differant than other brands as they don't neccessary have bigger cc at such a easy mod like the KTM engine.
this works for us and may not work for you, but i would do the suspension and controls, body protection and then you can look at the engine mods. this year both LB and i ran stock engines at the TP300 as you don't need the 540 as TP300 is a long race and in slow sand. Boothy ran a stock 525 at finke on a st8 axle and did very well on his first attempt
you can look at new or 2nd hand parts as there is always a few amounts of polaris 2nd hand gear laying around.
there is heaps of other bits and pieces we do to customise to the rider hope this helps, PM me if you need more info
Smithy can help with a finke setup for the 700xx, but i know he does about the same on a 700xx, parts could be more or less. who knows. _________________ 2012 sponsors, Working on it. |
