THE DATE THAT LAVIS LANE WAS SUPPOSED TO OPEN HAS NOW CHANGED FROM 19TH SEPT TO FRI 24TH SEPTEMBER.IN OUR NSW ATV DISCUSSION SECTION OF THE FORUM IT DOES MENTION THE 24th OCTOBER BUT THEY ACCIDENTLY TYPED THE WRONG MONTH.THANK GOD FOR THAT SO LETS GO AND ENJOY .BE EARLY TO GET A PARK THE CARPARK WILL BE FULL BY 8AM SATURDAY MORNING IM SURE .C U ALL THERE.

was talking about the new highway leading on to the beach to a mate, He reckoned it will be a magnet to the stolen car crowd.... IE how far can you get your hot car onto the sand?

I've only ever been to Belmont sand hills once, there was a hill there which had two or three cars (stolen or paddock bashers?), burnt out where they had bogged.

The comment about stolen cars reminds me of the stories people tell about how in some instances a seat belt may hurt you in a crash.

I would have thought the "old" access lent itself to that more than the new one will anyway. I suppose we will wait and see.

In any event, I can't see why we should discuss the negatives (especially remote or trivial ones) when nobody seems to be expressing thanks for our (and a hell of a lot of other peoples') money being spent to make life better for us. I (maybe alone?) am looking forward to the improvements.

Part of the reason why we are waiting is some low life scumbags trashed and damaged the equipment which they were using to make our access to the beach more convenient to use

I have never had a real problem with the track/s that was there. if you/ your vehicle have trouble negotiating the old track you probably need another hobby.

New road, not really required, just use the one thats there with common sense. Fresh water and toilet facilities would have been a better investment in my opinion. although any infrastructure put into the car park would be open to the same mindless vandalism as the machinery stock8 commented on (hadnt heard about that, not that it surprises me).

The comment about stolen cars was not a criticism about the upgrade (just because I really cant see the need, at least they are doing something posotive).. it was simply a comment regarding a conversation I had. nothing more. However, should I wish to make a negative comment about this or any other matter, no matter how trivial, I will, this is a forum after all.

I think that they felt guilty, they have been taking our money for years (beach rego) and not giving much back so they thought they would give something back...

However there no doubt lack of research will shine through and I suppose it already has by closing it for months...

I have heard from a few different people that the upgrade was aimed move makers (particularly those behind Mad Max Thunder road) than 4x4 and Quad riders.

Not sure where the rumour originally started, I would have thought that any movie makers would film further north than Lavis lane, Jim Belushi made Sahara a lot closer to Anna Bay if I recall.

I Don't really care what they do as long as they do it quick Iam busting to get back on the beach Iam a bit dissapointed that the date was extended looks like the count down begins again.All because some people don't respect the property of others hope they catch them.

Its called karma, u carnt just keep kicking people in the guts & expect nothing to come kick you in the ass, open up more of the beach & you could have working bee's I for 1 would be there to help out as would most RVA user's.

The re-opening of Stockton Beach access at Lavis Lane and the Recreational Vehicle Area in the Worimi Conservation Lands near Williamtown, has been re-scheduled from the 19th September to Friday 24th September, due to unavoidable construction delays.

National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) Hunter Coast Area Manager Michael Murphy said the need to move very high volumes of sand has meant the work has taken slightly longer than anticipated.

"The track will still be open in time for the October school holidays when the widened and raising two-way access road will provide visitors with a more reliable and safer access onto the beach", Mr Murphy said.

"The Worimi Conservation Lands Board of Management apologises for inconvenience the temporary closure may cause some recreational vehicle users", Mr Murphy said.

In the meantime people can still access Stockton Beach via the Anna Bay 4WD entry, off Gan Gan Road.

The old 4WD track was on private land, new track is on parks land. Nothing to do with mad max and movies. The smaller quads and kids had difficulties getting up the sand dune. Easy solution Ban kids or spend the money on a track that all can use safely.

The track the 4WD used past the ATV track to the beach was on park until you drove out of the veg onto the sand. the old track from there to the last big dip past the cross and lagoon is Worimi Local Aboriginal Lands Council Freehold land. Thats the bit that will be sand mined in the future. The boundary was a large pine post painted white. The freehold land runs to about 1.05km south of tin city.

The high dunes are on the Worimi Freehold land not park. Ring the Ranger or stop and ask he will explain it to you.

Its the same down near the Sygna. Boral freehold land takes in about 1.8km of the back dune where we ride. Thats why the white marker posts move of the hind dune towards the beach past the mine site.

The Worimi Conservation Lands (Park) is totally different to the Worimi Freehold Lands and Worimi Local Aboriginal Lands Council.

The Worimi Local Aboriginal Lands Council run the quad tours on their land next to the carpark at Lavis.

the map shows the park boundary and the private (freehold lands). The reason things are where thay are is because of the park boundaries. DECCW can't allow park visitors to access private lands. The high dunes or the bowl are private lands, however the land between the RVA boundary and the bowl or high dunes are on park but outside the RVA for quads.
