Ive been reading this thread as its been growing. I dont have a speedo on my 04 trx450 but i became curious as to what i could get from my bike so the other weekend i was at a mates farm who has had part of his place chopped up because of pipeline works with the desal plant going in so we had a smooth straight to test it out on. Mate has a new stock can-am 800 outlander so with a speedo on hand we were good to go. ok as a recall i have a stage 2 cam, high comp piston (cant remember compression ratio) ported head, full leo vince X3 titanuim system & vortex ingition. standard wheel/tyre sizes, standard rear spocket, 13tooth front sprocket. Mate said the last time he checked the speedo was when the outlander was ringing out, he had past 125km/hr & reckons i was still pulling away hard. thats my 2cents worth which i hope can shed some light on different ATV's & there speeds. Never been a rider who was into speed but it was interesting to see, id like to throw the 15tooth front on & have another go at it. _________________ 04 TRX 450r

| single cylinder nice and light 450 with a good launch are a stout bike to there top speed no matter what way you look at it add some comp, cams and porting and there just that more explosive again its simple a bolt on kfx700 or the other v-twin autos will never run with a piped 450 ive had my fair share of trys before i went bigger cc and the top speed of a kfx is around 120-125 unless you have your clutch cut and have it lightened with the secondary and run 2 stock and 2 slightly heavier weights with a perfect spring on the main clutch have it clutched wrong and you will never go over 125kph even with 200h.p |

lol...mega im not fussed mate, from what ive read so far the average seems to be around the 120-130 mark so even though i dont have an exact number im around that range. i dont regard my bike as quick when it comes to getting a big top speed reading anyway. the way my bike behaves is 1st , 2nd, 3rd , 4th are all savage but once i get 3/4 throttle in 5th it doesnt have much left & just wants to cruise. When i got PeteW to put my bike together i wanted a bike with a bit of extra gumption but still remain reliable & thats what he built. 700 your right mate these 450's weigh nothing so with a little bit of work they really do wake up. iv had some very experienced 2wheeled riders & a few quad riders sample mine & reckon it holds its own but would it be one of the fastest out there?....i doubt it very much... I reckon mega if the "so called experts" think your numbers are way out then do what they suggest, not many have faith in the vapor trail speedo's so have a crack with a GPS like Fossil said. I got the thinking i might take my offroad GPS out with me & my cars GPS the next time im on the farm & have a 2nd run with maybe another bike with a speedo that will sit along side me the whole time & if the 3 seperate numbers are all pretty close ud be on the money. ...anyone else agree?....Come to think of it mega id much prefer to get some1 to pilot my bike who is quick, i dont consider myself quick so i might need some1 with real talent so the bike will perform @ its best _________________ 04 TRX 450r

Really at the end of the day top speed is not that relevant and the type of riding most of us do anything over 100 is fast. On the properties we own most of the trails are narrow and lots of trees but a hell of a lot of fun especially on the kfx700
And dangerous to some friends have wrecked everything from raptors, rhinos and a lot of chinese junk going much slower. |

No comment dude, i just started walking properly again!
Also who ever says you cant push a stockish raptor past the claimed 120-130 suck my fat left nut, cause i came off the thing at that speed and screwed myself up pretty hard! so screw your speedos and your GPS units ive got the damage to prove it
Mega can vouch for this |

That's sounds about right JB. Top speed for the stock rappy is listed as somewhere between 113 and 118 km/h (70 and 73mph). The usual Big 3 mods plus the removal of the speed limiter will mean bugger all increase in top speed but they will get you to top speed quicker. I had listed my top speed at 128.7 but a ride with Mr Garmin recently put it closer to 120. _________________ I'm not suffering from insanity, I'm enjoying it!!! |
