To all in the know
has a rule been passed for legal down sizing of motors for junior racing , have i missed this some where, is a 250R allowed 2 be raced in the 200/300 class ? is a 450 exc KTM allowed to be fitted with stock 250 /300 genuine KTM PARTS ? ALLOWED?
here's a twist buy a pitster pro with a 140 cc remove that motor bang in a 125/110 cc semi auto or what ever is cheap laying around, now do we have a OEM / PRODUCTION BIKE ? before every body starts i am not referring to bullets Honda with a big block chinese motor that's been sorted it was built for FINKE TO COMPETE WITH BIG BIKE NEVER RACE IN ANY OTHER CLASSES THAN JUMBOS IN SA WITCH ALLOWS CHEVYS lol no offence any one
OR BUY A DS90 CAN AM INCREASE IT TO 115.5cc or just bang a ----y in it the rules are so confusing now that ive lost sight of where its going I THOUGHT IT WAS 5% OF IT COMPASITY EG 90cc what it came out with not 110 max capacity plus 5%?
well iam sure lots of you will have some thing to contribute let me hear it thanks and i am not having a dig at any one make or model of quad just a lot of strange thing are happening in the sport latelly and officials are making up rules as they go here in this state too many parents are complaing to me and scared to ask the questions we have a rule book! whos read it i have and i still need help

MA board decisions on our rules should be made at this months meeting (mid Sept)
My Finke Jumbo had the original Honda engine with a 54mm alloy barrel fitted to make it 113cc.
After Finke (due to head gasket engine damage) I went back to 107cc for a while then fitted a Lifan 127cc engine for the next seasons MX.
The same 54mm size barrel on a DS90 would make 113cc also, because they are the same stroke engine (the heads are directly interchangable).
MrsB's DS90 is only 97cc (Cheap 50mm re-bore of standard barrel)
I do not know of a DS90 in Australia bigger than 109cc.
Ask QuadSquad if you are interested in these power-ups, Adam can give you all the numbers and facts (03) 8790 1920. _________________ Can-Am X Team

As Bullet has stated the rules have not been passed so no one can really comment.....BUT......
As I remember the proposed rules you will be able to downsize an engine to fit in to capacity rules...........with the KTM you wont have to use genuine parts as long as you use the stock crank cases. IMO it will be very hard to get a 450 below 300cc's.
I think the kiddie rules have taken a step back in that they still recommend 110cc for a four stroke and the 5% rule seems to be gone. That will make things really hard for the Pitster/Chineese crowd as its very hard to down size one of those engines below 125cc's as stock crank will have to be changed as well as the piston and barrel.......not easy to find the right parts combination.
I gota say though you do sound like you are having a bit of a vent. I understand your frustration as the status-quo is not adequite and the proposed rules unclear. |

Hi,
I thought that the new rule was going to be as long as it fitted into the original engine mounts!!!!! [no mds to the mounts].
The 90/110 class is going to be lifted to 90/125 so as to accomodate the raptor 125 when it arrives next year!!!!!
That's the way I was reading it..............
thanks scotty. _________________ 06 700 raptor 50th anniversary |

From memory Danny the downsizing rule for the 300 class was clarified by MA late last year as a no.
however the interesting thing with the pitster is that technically all of those engines are to some degree interchangeable... as has been stated the top ends easily bolt off one model to another, although it is hard to get a 140 down to 110 with out a crank change too but it is possible, alos the fact that the pitster comes in other capacities (not here i know) like the Typhoons did which is why it is possible to do it with them.... with out any homogolation of atv models it is easy to get around the production rule too, just do it to a couple of them and call it a race model..... _________________
