Been looking at one of these for the club... 50 and the 90 seem to be the same frame but with different engine ...90 size quad.. small kids eg 4 year olds would stuggle on the 50... I think ????

Both my kids have started on Suzuki LT80's. My son was 4 when he got his. Just controlled how fast he could go with the throttle limit screw. He moved onto two wheels by about 7 but now is back on a Blaster. My daughter got hers last year at the age of 7. Didnt relly thick to go with the 50 as I thought they would grow out of it pretty quickly. Have seen one, a 50 that is, recently at the ATV club, with a kid that was way bigger than my kids were and it was handling him riding it fine.
So I guess it comes down to personal choice on the size. The Suzuki or Kwaka kill the Chinese ones. |

Was wondering about going up a size myself. Spoke to a mate the other night who now has teenagers and he reckoned the 50 would be undergunned. A 90 has more chance of getting down the beach and back.
Not keen on the bloody drum brakes on most of them
More of a range in the slightly bigger size also.
Cheers

Arn't the Suzuki and Kwaka 50 the same bike? i know Suzuki don't make the LT 50 2 stroke anymore only the sporty looking LTZ as we have one of the last of the 2 strokes.
In the same boat trying to find out what to replace it with as they do grow out of them really quickly.
Yamaha now make the 90 in China under license and i think they sell for about $3300 to make them price competitive nowadays auto etc so pretty good value.
I have just been talking to Quadparts over here in WA regarding the Pro Sharks as they make a recreational version of the 50 for $3250. Check out their web www.prosharkaustralia.com.au as they are a larger frame bike. Best case is you can buy the 90 engine later on and slot it into the frame. _________________ 660R mine

Had the LTZ next to the KFX and there is little similarity. The kfx50 is the same size as the kfx90 has an 85kg rider limit v's a 35kg on the Suzuki. Rear disc brake on the kfx. Pity about the lame pretend headlights, I mean ffs why? _________________ Write something witty here! |

Just got a little Ds90x for my two eldest kids 7 year old boy and 9 year old girl they had a ball on it then my youngest 5 year old boy wanted a go so in an open paddock let him have a go, strapped the kids helmet on him and followed him around He had a ball. All three of them couldn't wipe the smiles off there faces for hours.
I think a 50cc is pretty small and the kids would be looking for the next size up pretty quickly.
The Ds90 has a really wide stance which I like and with the auto box has a nice slowish take off which I think is great for kids starting out.
I will probably look for a 200cc quad for my girl shortly.

Tony,
If I were in your situation.......
I'd bypass the 50 and go straight to the 90.
because:
(A) there is not a lot of price difference between a 50 and a 90
(B) It's a helluvalot cheaper and easier to detune than to tune up.
(C) The kids would have more room to grow around a 90 than a 50.
(D) And in say 3 years time, if the kids were still keen, a 90 would probably easier to upgrade to another level than a 50.
(E) I would only be worried about the the quality and back-up of product, not the alleged country of origin. World marketing is another word for corporate profits. Any similarity to the truth is merely a unintentional trap in the spiderweb of misleading advertising in the pursuit of sales.
That's only my view-point. But if it keeps the kids safe and the family happy........ _________________ Remember. We elect politicians, but we have to deal with bureaucracy.

Sorry Dino I understand what you are saying. I was refering to the cheap crap end of the market with my china comment, the $499 ebay special if you like, and my preference for something that is reliable, easy to find parts and has resale value. I am likely to keep it for at least 9-10 yrs as a starter for my youngest also, If the middle one doesn't wear it out .

Yes, I think I know what you mean. And I agree.
The biggest problem with Asian imports is the "fly-by-night-importers."
9-10 years is a long time for a quad bike.......
but if it keeps the kids or YOUR gear, for as long as possible, it's a winner.
I still say, go a 90.
A 50 would merely be a stepping stone, that is not really needed.
Our kids grew through shoe sizes so quick........
I should ask though, are you talking a farm tool or kids events?
Most "farm kids" that I have met, have advantages through both aptitude and attitude........ _________________ Remember. We elect politicians, but we have to deal with bureaucracy.

I would recommend the 90 every day of the week ....BUT For some reason you wake up in the morning and you think I might take billy to the races ..hes going pretty hard on that 90..... and he's the wrong age for a 90 ...
No racing for you... According to MA you learn on a 50 .....
Funny growing up on our Dairyfarm I was driving the farm ute at 9 and the tractor at 12 lol ...and did my car licence in our HR truck.
Too much cotton wool in life today .... looking back i could have died plently ..just lucky i guess

| yeah I know what you mean? I've had plenty of knockers for letting the girls race. I work in the medical industry. Fully kitted up they have more protection than I ever had. I remember riding down a steep hill on a banana board with nothing but my BATHERS on!!! |

They don't go backwards? I must admit that took me by surprise. Out of all the bikes I have looked at only the can am and the polaris have reverse in the 90cc range. Plastic lights are not an appealing addition either, especially on a 4K bike.
If can am did an outlander 90 I would have a happy young bloke. Looks like it will have to be a polaris sportsman 90 as the only real option. Either that or I make racks for a DS90
