If anyone buys the TBAM magazine they are giving a old side track mag for free in it. The latest issue. There's a interesting letter to the editor about three wheeler safty and you'll never beleive it but how farmers are not the most safty concience of riders back in 2001.... Bt he goes on to talk about the deal trike makers did with the USA govt and the buy back scheme, sorry cant scan it no pc for a week or two (borrowed mates at his place to write this lot) but made for good reading and the issue then hasnt changed here in Aus... bloody farmers

Yeah take it easy Yogie beleive it or not milk and other produce dosen't get made in the supermarket you know so pull you head in fella. I admit most farmers are not very safety minded and most quad injury happen on the farm. But think of it like this work quads out number sports quads 1,000,000 to 1 so it more likely that farmer will get hurt more often than a rec rider.
And in the last 2 years most of the big farms with lot of employees are now inforceing lid's to be worn at all time and roll bars are being fitted to quads.
So next time you think of have a swipe at the poor old farmer just think ATV's would most likely not have been invented if it wasn't for us

The only reason they have more accidents is because helmets are not worn and they overload there quads with trailers not suited to the bike

that may be true but the number of small farms out number the big ones by quite a bit and the number of farmers who dont wear helmets and who overload the quads still out numbers the ones that do

If you really think that is the main reason farmers get hurt on quads you really don't have much of a clue do ya. And i haven't got the time to argue the point to such a narrow minded veiw.
And what do you expect every farmer is going to put a lid on just because you want them to? I don't think so. But younger farmers are being edjucated now days and thats why we are starting to see improvment in farm safety. It wont happen over night but it will happen.
So next time you have an axe to grind just make sure you know what your talking about before you have a swing at somthing you most likely know nothing about

P.S. I've said my bit now and not going to get sucked into some stupid fourm agument

hahaha narrow minded mate i am just going by what i have seen as i have been a farmer and know plenty of them so yeah i do know what i am talking about i am not having a go at you i am just going by what i have seen with the farmers i have worked for and the ones i know they do take risks on there quads that are not worth it, and if you think this is a stupid forum argument then you dont realise that farmers as a majority in quad ownership have an affect on us as sports quad riders

this was my whole point of the post, because we are all painted with the same brush, I would like to think this attitude is changing VERY slowly, and does the occasional 1 step forward, 2 back. And the Govt is no better as one of the deaths being investigated was a case of a farmmer being knocked off his quad and was killed by a bull, I mean give the sport/activity/hobbie a fair go (bracks and co) But if the farmers are learning the lesson, well good on them and then finally that will filter down to us and sports/trail riders.

I think this contributes to more deaths but not more accidents.
Like cowchaser said, the sheer numbers of farm quads means the statistics are skewed.
Its like saying planes are safer than cars.... well yeah there are far less plane crashes than there are car crashes but there are far less planes than cars, less traffic in the air, etc...

Regardless of our own agenda for the sport, the coroners attention to farm quad safety is long overdue.
Baby steps...

I have to put in my two cents worth.

I wonder how many people get trashed falling off of horses? Because you expect to fall off, no alarms are raised. Every one is use to it. Anything a little different than the norm and all the witch hunters come out of the woodwork telling everyone how dangerous anything other than what THEY are use to is. Fear of the unknown makes for useless time wasters. Learn your stuff PROPERLY, live it, then comment. If we are all SOOOOOO concerned about others getting hurt or kicking the bucket early, lets all ban fast food, chemicals, road bikes, cars, trucks, booze, naging dimwits, swimming, rock fishing, sex, going out side when it's cold, school, toys, walking in public, late nights, loud music, watching TV, etc etc.
Get the picture.

Educate people and shut down the witch hunters.

Just because you don't understand something, don't make it witch craft!

And just because you are use to something, don't make it right!

There. I've said it. Now I am going to do something really dangerous.. WOOOOOOOO........... Don't tell any one, the mob are out with their pitch forks!

Now you've gone and done it Derek! I asked you not to tell anyone. The mobs are outside my house burning crosses and throwing horses heads through the windows. I am doomed! Now I will be forced to make a getaway on my quad and live my life in exile out in the desert wastelands!

I accept! Ring my agent and she will pencil you in for lunch to discuss my fees as an actor. It's usually around $50,000 a day but I'm sure we could work something out when I get back from the Bahamas. That price does include my own stunt work. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
