Right-t-o guys.

The boys at my work have set down a challange. 3 two wheelers and myself to do finke next year.

What bike prep/set-up?
what personal training?
What spares?
Camping?

(bike has flex bars, nerf's, hand guards)

and to the smart ass's out there please leave the comments out.

cheers Dave

Six ply tyres are a good idea. Quads need a rear dust light 90x90mm led is best. There are 3 finke club fuel stops which are available every 60klms. You can put minimal spares and camping equipment ( swag, tent, esky, clothes bag on NQX truck in alice to go to finke. Food for sunday night and monday morning is available also. You pay for these extras when putting in entry form. What make of quad do u have Dave. The two sundays prior the long weekend are organised reconnaisance from Rodinga to Finke and return. You need to obtain permit for one day rego. Regards Wayne

Hey Rider, 6ply or radials? I have my stock LTR450 brake light permately on, would that be ok you reckon? Do you pay for fuel, food etc with the entry form and what is the cost? I would love to go out for a bit of a look see first but its just to far away to check it out. A friend was lookin at driving a massive trailer over with our bikes and camping stuff

Ive got Maxxis Razor 2s on mine Trx 450. 21" or 22" on the front and 20" or 22" on rear. I think the fuel stops were $ 180. Food was $30. Gear on truck $50 per rider. Cheers Wayne

4 Stroke is in 200ltr drums and volunteers pump the drum pump and u operate the nozzle like a servo. Also that rear light should be adequate.

thats pretty nice of them. what kinda fuel is supplied? 98/95/91ron?

how is everyone "released" at the start?, all together for quads etc, just wondering what sort or vehicles would be over taking me.

to train, do all this ride, race, run, bike, kayak, squash, gym, stretch, eat and then have as much bedroom antics as possiable in weird postions. that should get your body in to shape and ready for the abuse.

the bike will always get you there but will you get the bike there.

Dont have a contact at the moment mate, but there are people in Alice that run a service for Finke riders..... you meet them in alice and they cook you food, setup camp, fuel your bike at stops and take your gear down to Finke .... just like a hire support crew ... you get the idea.. think it did cost a few hundred first time with a discount on races after that... if your on a budget maybe not ... but if you just want to worry about the race, have a good time etc. worth the dosh I think.
Cheers and good luck..!!!

Not sure.
I do a bit of work out of Alice now and then,... was there for last years Finke... great time.
Was just talking to the guys that I work with out there, I have a few mates that live in Alice I may get to ask ??? I live in Adelaide.
But it sounded like a great deal..... there is a finke website with all the race information which you probably already know... and dvd's from each year for sale. (dvd's are usually pretty average,.. gotta watch the extra bits to get half decent race footage)
Will see if I can get a contact for ya mate... the guy I actually spoke to about this has since moved but I would say all the other locals I know would probably know the guy aswell..... want to go in Finke myself which is how the conversation came up... these guys will do oil changes the lot, and you can use quick fills on fuel stops with them too.
see how I go... will post if i find out... dont forget entries fill fast for the race ...gotta get in quick... think they go on sale Feb. is expensive to go in too with all the licences, insur. etc. $400 plus just to enter... but good to say you done it Smile

enter when the entries are out in late jan or feb.

then we can sort out the little bits and pieces.

start saving around 2-3 grand to get there and then go from there.
