Had a Flattrack meeting last weekend and in the 3rd heat the clutch started slipping, so like a good boy I kept racing anyway, then after the race, smoke was coming out everywhere ( looked cool under lights), when I went to fit a new clutch I noticed crank oil on the exhaust pipes coming from the crank breather just above them. How do I tell if its done a crank shaft seal and pressurizing the crank case or was it jut because the clutch was slipping. The clutch plates looked good and were in specs but the springs felt week (standard/original clutch). Any help would be appreciated thanks _________________ Has turned to the Dark Side! |

| How does the tranny oil look? The crank seal could be on the way out and let some fuel thin out the oil and helped make the clutch slip. Also the worn seal will pressurize your crankcase and force oil out the breather. |

The tranny oil looks and smells ok, bit darkish. Started it up this morning and it starts and runs fine but it has more smoke coming out the clutch side cylinder than the other, especially at idle, not excessive but noticable, pulled out both plugs and they look the same colour. Should I leave it and take it for a good ride and see what happens? _________________ Has turned to the Dark Side! |

its not crank oil on the pipes its tranny oil.
when you flog em hard enough, they start spitting oil out the breather, thats what its for!
a new crank seal may help, but mine still does it even after new seals. my mates bansh will pump the tranny oil out until its empty... there arent too many people who can hold em flat the whole way around a speedway track like he can though!
what we have done is just re-route the breather pipes to point onto the chain, and keep an eye on the tranny oil level.
for your clutch, get genuine yamaha fzr1000 fibres and some new stock steels (if it needs steels) and put it all back together with 3 heavy springs and 3 stock.
ring around and get some prices on the fibres, they are exxy, so if you get stuck i can get you a complete kit (fibres, steels and 6 springs) for under $200 out of the usa.
ps silkolene medium gear oil is the go in these things.
got the 28s on yet? _________________ 2002 SE Banshee |

Stll waiting for them to turn up, the track was fast and I did have it flat for 95% of itand when the clutch was slipping I did flog it harder cos I was sh1tty. Its definatly gear oil on the exhaust too. Think Ill fit a catch can to see how much comes out and let you know, Thanks again _________________ Has turned to the Dark Side! |

never had a problem with tranny fluid blowing out the breather. I run only the rear breather and block off the one behind the water pump plastic cover. Run the breather from the rear over the top frame tube and down again.
Also i run 95LE automatic transmission fluid in the gearbox _________________ Queensland Quad Riders Association

Yeah it seems stupid to put a crank breather so low to the oil, it was pushing out the front breather cos the pipe was all oilly inside it and the rear breather was clean _________________ Has turned to the Dark Side! |
