 |

Hi,
I live in Israel and own a can-am ATV.
I am doing a reserach about ATV and insurance in different countries.
I would appreciate it if you could answer the following questions regarding ATV's in Australia :
1. Is it allowed for ATV's to drive on roads ?
2. Is it compulsory to have insurance, or a matter of choice ?
3. If it is compulsary - what kind of insurance is compulsory (injury, property) and how much does it cost per year ?
4. If it is not compulsary - how much does liability insurance for injury cost ?
5. Does the insurance rate change according to age and experience ?
6. Is it common for ATV owners to drive uninsured ?
7. Is it common to have a passenger on single rider ATV's ?
Thanks,
Klum |

1. Generally NO, unless as part of an organised event. In most cases, for sport ATV's anyway, they cannot be road registered. Some farmers or businesses are able to get a special conditions registration.
2. There is no liability or third party insurance available for unregistered vehicles.
7. Most ATV's in Australia are single rider. _________________ Cheers,

Thank's for the answers.
1. I understand that no insurance is required for non registered cehicles. Is it legal in australia not to register an ATV ? (In israel it is illegal).
2. If the ATV is registered - do you know how much the minimal insurance costs ?
Thanks, Klum. |

In some parts of Australia where we are permitted to ride it is required you register and insure your quad for public liability costing about $360 annually.
you can insure your quad for Fire and theft. I have my quad insured for $12000 and it use to cost me around $450 a year. |

I also have my bikes registered for riding in "designated offroad riding areas", which in WA means sweet stuff all, but it does not cover me for public liabilty or personal injury, it just means I'm not breaking the law while riding in one of three pathetic places around Perth.
My bikes are also insured, but once again not while while I am riding, in any way shape or form.
My insurance covers against theft or fire while securely locked up, or if I happen to have a trafic accident and the bike is appropriately secured on my trailer. _________________ Cheers,
