Sorry for the stupid question, but what IS and what DOES a transponder do, and finally what DOES it look like. I see these being needed in some enduro events, and I have no idea what it all means.

a transponder is used for timing laps of riders. a transmitter/transponder is fitted to each machine and a sensor connected to a PC at the finishing line detects when the transponder crosses the line. Each transponder has a unique ID so individual lap times can be assigned to all riders.

In WA MWA hire them out at each state round or open event, $12.50 per transponder. You can buy one, $385 approx, but with your own you get access to more information
ie with a hired one you get Best lap time, on your own transponder you can get every individual lap.
They last approx 3 years.
http://www.mylaps.com/results/showevents.jsp?org=7970
if you click on the above link, you can see all the events in WA where transponders are used.
They are also great for holeshots too, in '06 nats we placed an extra loop on the holeshot line, so there were no arguments.
Some states charge lots more, some promoters have their own.
we fight every year to keep the hire charge as low as possible _________________ www.waquadmx.com |
