It's been a while since I've had to remind users of the Buy & Sell section about the Buy and Sell Section Guidelines.

Following some recent feedback on some problems with some transactions through the site, please take the time to read the guidelines and adjust your sales behaviour.

OZATV.com recommends that you use services such as www.ebay.com.au or www.tradingpost.com.au to sell items, as those sites are specifically set up for these transactions and gives you some protection.[/url]

it would be a shame to see the buy and sell section end up like other sites where you can't reply to threads, or even worse, disappear all together.

paypal is the way to go when purchasing goods from private sellers. i recently got stung on ebay trying to buy a phone, but i made a claim to paypal in due time (you have 30 days) and i got the money back fairly painlessly.

maybe you should make it a requirement for sellers to have a paypal account when advertising items on here. would take a bit more moderation but would be better in the long run.

mark.

While we are on the subject of buy and sell, I would like to see people who have only "smart ass" comments to make regarding a sale , to be banned.

Including Moderators , who then decide to make comments that they will "fix the problem" , which resulted in the prospective buyer walking away.
I believe I recently lost a sale due to unwanted and unnecessary intervention.

Moderate the Moderators !!!!!!!!!

Another forum I was on a few years ago introduced a policy whereby all For Sale stuff was locked...as in the ad was posted and no one could reply to it. If anyone was interested in the goods the PM'd the person about it. It certainly stopped all the slappers who go way off topic or who knock other peoples products.

The ad also had to meet the For Sale template layout...and after 2 weeks the ad disappeared.

Seemed to work for them

nah that sux, i'd hate it if that happened here. this is a forum, people are supposed to be able to say what they want (to a degree of course), makes it more interesting. the buy and sell section has the second highest amount of posts of all the subforums on ozatv.

if you are more worried about selling or buying things, then that is what ebay and the trading post are for.

ozatv is awesome just needs little refinements here and there, not a re-think.

mark.

Then why have a Buy and sell section at all ?? If it is not for people who are serious about buying or selling why bother with it. It is obviously a popular tool for some , others seem happy to abuse it . Dosnt that need moderation. I think Surfin's idea has merit , at least that way nobody gets offended or product slanging !!

i agree that it needs moderation.

the buy and sell section serves its purpose as a great tool to allow quad enthusiasts to advertise their items exclusively to other quad enthusiasts.

you dont get that anywhere else (such as trading post ebay etc) and thats why it has to stay.

for example if someone is looking for a rare part such as a Honda TRX250R part, you are far more likely to find it on ozatv compared to the trading post arent you?

discussion within the buy and sell and wanted section is also an important feature. for example if someone is looking for a part, and i know someone who has said part, i can quickly type "phone or pm such and such he/she has that". i am far less likely to go out of my way to email or phone the advertiser myself to deliver the same message.

last but not least the buy and sell section has the second highest amount of posts on this site, and if you stopped the ability to reply or got rid of the section altogether, then that is alot of interesting (not to mention entertaining) discussion gone from ozatv.

the price you pay for all is the fact that sometimes you get idiots or smart ass comments, and every now and then someone may get offended or "lose a sale". BIG DEAL!! its not the sole purpose of the site, and you dont pay any money for the service

end rant Smile

Mark , as you have correctly indicated ..the Buy and sell is the second biggest topic area ...what do u think would happen to the site if people got sick of trying to sell or buy something and "dickless:" idiots kept interrupting their post with mindless burble....do u think they would continue to advertise ...then when there is nothing for sale ....noone visits the site ...then what happens .............think about it guys ........ this site has a commercial realisation and if that does not succeed then the forum would disappear. If people want to take over a sale thread why dont they go and do it in the "dickless " topic forum... not someone else's thread.
Helpful comments always welcome , too often threads get highjacked by people with nothing better to do.
Just my opinion ......... Probabally why myself (and many others i know ) dont frequent this site much any more .
