 |
|
Just got my 2009 OUTLAW IRS and the first thing I noticed was the new ride position. The ergos are spot on. Compared to the 08 OUTLAW, the 09 has a taller steering stem and the foot pegs are more forward. The seat is also flatter. Although not as super comfy as the 08 it is still very nice.
When riding, the biggest difference I noticed was how lite it felt compared to the 08. Polaris put it on a diet and it shows. The center of gravity is also lower and you notice that as well. With the new riding position, the machine feels more balanced as well.
This year they have decided to go with FOX shox all round. I have not had a chance to take it out to any rough stuff yet so I am not sure how they compare to the 08 shocks.
While spinning some bolts on it I noticed that the plastics are held in place with far less bolts and the ones they use are more consistant so you don't have the "where did this one come from?" syndrome. Put simply it is much easier to work on.
One thing I did prefer on the 08 was the traditional Polaris "face" look. The new machine has a single head light and although it looks more "race", I will miss the old polaris face.
Polaris have taken a great quad and made it better. _________________ When I'm racing I'm living..... everything else is just waiting. |

Thanks for the review John.
Rode this weekend with a mate who rides an '07 525 IRS. The type of riding we did really suits that quad. Most of it was clay loam trails with whoops and lots of rutted hills. Some of the extremely rutted hills that also had small boulders have no chance against the IRS, while my YFZ450 struggled with swing arm ground clearance. On one of these hills my swing arm hit a boulder so hard it broke the bolts and the swing arm bash plate (Pro-Armour) drove my chain off. Fortunately my chain was not too difficult to get back on and I had a TM Design case saver which saved my case.
Now I just have to find my ezi-outs and spend some quality time on my shed floor getting the swing arm bash plate bolts out. _________________ Don't close your eyes during the crash, you'll miss the best part |

Mags,
What is with the fuel tap been so far forward? How is one supposed to reach it while riding? _________________ Its not if you win or lose but how you enjoyed the ride! |

I really don't know..... and what are you doing letting go of the bars while riding anyway? ....... When you run out of fuel and need to go to reserve first pull up off of the trail in a safe manner, switch off your quad, make sure you have applied the parking brake, make sure you are in a safe spot where no one will run into you, dismount the quad, put out your safety caution reflective triangle at least 30 meters behind your quad, make sure you have some heat proof gloves on then flick your fuel tap to the reserve position....etc etc...
Just messing with ya but really, I don't know, but it does not seem like a big deal to me at this stage. Just have to remember to turn it on. _________________ When I'm racing I'm living..... everything else is just waiting. |

Yeah, is growing on me every day. I pulled the headlight out for racing and it looks real good without it. _________________ When I'm racing I'm living..... everything else is just waiting. |

Maggs......can you confirm that the '09 Outlaw has an electric fuel pump under the front cowl........that would make a safari setup much easier.
