i wrote to yamaha and they had no idea how hot my Raptor 350 engine gets during normal operation nor could they tell me what is a dangerous operational temp for the motor

dazz, i would not be concerned about overheating your air cooled 350. There bulletproof engine that have been around for a long time. Unless you ride through a lot of mud and get the engine totally covered in mud you will never cook it. _________________ Queensland Quad Riders Association

im not so worried about cooking it as the quad runs great all day...
im more interested in knowing whats a normal range as alot of guys have said 200-220F and yet i see 200 - 220C ... big differance |

200 - 220 F is around 100 degrees C
a air cooled engine would'nt run at this temp at the hotest part of the cylnder.
my ZX10R engine in my quad runs between 95c and 104c as its normal operating temp and thats the water in the colant system not the top of the cylnder.
so the top of the cylnder is gonna have to be up in the 150c range, to keep the coolant that hot. surely a air cooled engine would be designed to run slightly hotter then a water cooled engine.
i say sell your thermomoter (spelling) on ebay and hold it flat. |

the 160c - 220c looks like the range the quad operates so the temp sensor must be working fine .... |
