Raptor 7oo but i'm guessing same for YFZ450
Almost finished making it possible to grease my axle bearings. To start off i removed the carrier, stripped it down, installed 8 grease nipples at equal spacing around the carrier, removed the inner bearings seal and the inner side of the outer bearings seal so grease can flush through. Next i drilled a hole in the swing arm to allow the grease nipples to be accessed, drilled the same size as the other bung holes in the swing arm. Ordered new seals and another bung from yamaha. Whilst i was doing this and had the swing arm removed i installed some grease nipples in the swing arm pivot bearings so they can also now be greased (no pics of this though)
With the 8 nipples installed, it doesn't matter which position the carrier is in to tension the chain as most times a nipple can be accessed.
It would have been possible to just put a nipple in the back of the swingarm but the grease would have to fill the whole swingarm before filling the bearing, not with this method
Here are some pics.
