i went to the local yamaha dealer today to get a 37t rear sprocket for an 08 yfz450 and they tell me that only 38 is available is this ture if not who makes them

JT Sprockets make em as do a number of others. Yamaha only have 38T as genuine and not many companies bring in A/M sprockets for quads.

Try adam@quadsquad.com.au for one,he'll likely have one on the shelf.
