I think this is the best on line coverage of the 09 DAKAR.
It is on the SBS web site.
Enjoy!

Great race this year - plenty of quads so we actually get to see some on the coverage.
The last 3 stages have been carnage even thought they have been shortened; bikes, quads, cars & trucks have all had a hard time.
Aussie David Schwartz had a 4hr penalty and then had it reversed.
Al-Ataya (sp) was winning the cars but has been disqualified.
The quads have been awesome; they have been changing possitions every day.
Outright Yesterday Stage 6
1 254 GONZALEZ (ESP) YAMAHA
2 250 MACHACEK (CZE) YAMAHA
3 258 DECLERCK (FRA) YAMAHA
4 262 SONIK (POL) YAMAHA
5 273 PATRONELLI (ARG) CAN - AM
Today Outright Stage 7
1 250 MACHACEK (CZE) YAMAHA
2 273 PATRONELLI (ARG) CAN - AM
3 262 SONIK (POL) YAMAHA
4 251 AVENDANO (ESP) SUZUKI
5 270 HENDERSON (URY) SUZUKI
Just saw stage 7 on Foxtel |

Only 10 finishers (quads) so far from last nights stage!!!!........I'm sure some are stuck on stage right now but I don't think all will get back for the next day. No withdrawals are listed in the quads yet for the stage.
Absolute carnage right through the field; Stage 8 and 9 have taken their toll, stage 10 (tonight our time) is supposed to be even worse.
Machacek is kick'in butt in the quads on his.....cough cough Yamaha ; Patronelli on a Renegade has slowly worked his way up the field in to 2nd

Just watching it now. They must have got the letters lol. Showed a few more quads tonight. The quad towing in the 2 wheeler was the best bit. The way it should be. Quads doin the towin. Not gettin towed _________________ "If in doubt go flat out"

As of right now there are only 6 quads left in the race from 29 starters. It's the middle of the night in South Americe now. I would expect that a few riders are stuck on stage and would not be surprised if we get a few straglers in the next few hours.
Tomorrow is cancelled so if these riders can get back to the bivoac overnight they will at least get rest before doing stage 11 as a transport stagte.

What I can't beleive is that the bikes/quads are the slowest class for the overall the bloody trucks are even 3 hrs faster than them _________________ Smitty |

Oh yeah.......Super Trucks were banned years ago because of that sort of thing. When the truck is faster than the helicopter chasing it you gotta have a bit of a re-think.
4x4 with 2 1000hp engines is crazy.......the end came when they found a truck that had just disintergrated in to a small mound of sand.......all on board were dead.

Racing one of those trucks wouldn't be so bad...... at least you have two navigators to get out and push everytime you got stuck! _________________ When I'm racing I'm living..... everything else is just waiting. |

John - since when do you need a push? i saw you lost but never stuck
Haven't they limited the trucks to 150km/hr because they were doing 260/hr? I am trying to get my sister who has vaccum trucks interested
The Polaris chicky babe is 8th overall with one day to go.... now theres a woman of your dreams boys - hangon on second thoughts she might show you's up..... _________________ Family is most important.... next is our quads |

That's because I was on a Quad! If I was racing a truck in sand dunes then I would ask the navigators if they would be so kind and PUSH! _________________ When I'm racing I'm living..... everything else is just waiting. |
