Those of you that have Can-Am bikes with front lockers, how do you find them?
A friend of mine has a Polaris 800 with a locker and it engages significantly more quickly and is a more positive lock. You notice it most when doing slow crawling stuff in deep ruts or over uneven rocks. The rear tends to corkscrew the bike and lift one of the front wheels right up into the air until the front locker engages and starts driving the front down. Sometimes this can be too late and you have to back off the throttle before the bike falls over, or you've just lost too much momentum to make the climb.
Does anyone know if you can improve the performance of the locker by running a heavier oil or changing the clutch packs or something along these lines? The front locker is my only problem with the bike and if I can fix this it'll be great. Alternatively could this be a fault with my locker? I've spoken to the dealer I bought it from and they seem to think that's just how it is. _________________ Mantis Motorsports

Hi Maddog, I had a Sportsman 800 05 model and it did not have a locker. It had some electronic system where if the rear wheels spun faster than the front it engaged the 4wd, this system worked better then a locker by avoiding excess strength to steer the quad. You would not even know it was going from 2wd to 4wd it was that fast and smooth. If you have ever ridden a 750 Kwaka or a 660 Grizz you will know what I am talking about. I am pretty sure thats how the system worked from memory.

Maddog, I almost forgot from what your describing it does not sound like the locker is running right and if the dealer says it is thats pretty bodgey. I thought the Cam Ams run a similar system to Polaris. I would try to get on to some of the sites in the states that are dedicated to 4x4 quads and start asking some questions and see if any one over there is having the same problems also you may be able to talk to some serious 4x4 diff shops and see what they say. Also ask some people in Aus that may have them there is a guy in general chit chat that is currently having problems with his 800max maybe drop him a line and see what he says.
