Hey guys, just found the forum and joined straight away!

I have a Bombardier GS650 and take it to Stocko beach every now and then.

The guy I bought it from said it was ok to ride on there as it has a NSW Rec plate on it, but I want to make sure.

First off, I rang the RTA and they said it needed to be reg'd. Cost around 500 a year (Yeah, right, I might go there once a month!) and bike needs to have headlight, tail light, mirrors, etc, etc, BLINKERS?? Without these, I cant rego it.

I saw some people here talking about UVP's. How do I get one of these and what else do I need?

I dont want to waste 500 bucks buying rego for it to use maybe a dozen times, but I dont want to be fined thousands of dollars.

What is my best option??

ok
what you do is
buy rego for three months which is heaps cheaper
then after three months keep the plates
and take the rego sticker of ur trailer and whack it on the bike whenever your ridin'
p.s. i didnt tell you this and if the rangers stop you
ask them a question like u were lost and u need directions
this usually throws them of guard and they dont look as hard

UVP (unreg. veh. permits) are the go. Cost me $27 for minimum 7days-maximum 28 days ? $.Get them from the RTA same as Conditional Rego. You need to show this to get the 'local/Nat Pks' beach permit.----Been through this before-may be outdated> http://www.ozatv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=436

So do I still need to fit blinkers to get a UVP? Im not keen on getting 6 months rego, as I dont want to have to fit blinkers, plus, 6 months is probably only 2 rides with my roster at the moment. I know no one actually has blinkers on the quads, but according to the RTA, if they catch you, or you are involved in an accident you are not covered and can be charged.

Why would I need blinkers any way?

I can 'fit' blinkers to the bike in a few minutes, they just wont work. Im not going to put them on if it can be avoided.

I think the UVP is for me, but dont I still need to get a permit from somewhere as well?

u don't need blinkers and that to ride a atv on stockton beach u only need recreation rego for a atv to ride at stocko beach........recreation rego is about $130 for 3 months but if your only gonna ride there once every blue moon i will just leave the plate on it and stay away from the ranger if u ever see him and stay away from those 4wd's going a long the beach........cheers

Thanks mate, that was what I though, but after I phoned the RTA, they said that Stockton was the only beach in NSW that you need conditional rego.

Aparantly, you cant use rec rego on Stockton.

I dont know anything but what I was told, its my first quad, did the right thing and phoned the RTA who said I need to have conditional rego, which means I need blinkers, horn, headlight, tail light, brake light, reverse light, mirrors, etc.

I argued that no quad has come out with blinkers, but they said to get conditional rego, it needs to be classed as an ATV, and goes by the same rules as tractors or lawn mowers that need to be driven on a road, so I asked if I can ride my quad on the road. No way, the rego is only for Stockton beach.

So, What do I do??

i and many others got a UVP for the weekend at easter. the RTA asks you to fill in a decleration stating the blinkers, horn, tail and headlighs are all fitted and work. well my quad had all this at the time but funny enough they all "fell off" on the way to stockton. dont worry about rec rego if your not riding there a lot just get the UVP. $26 for the week although i am sure it lasts longer if you ask @ the RTA

I'm not a guru on this, but neither are the RTA branches.
The UVP's (valid up to 28 days) are for vehicles which cannot be conditional registered. ATV's, 3 wheelers & non ADR motorbikes can under conditional rego. I realize the RTA gave you UVP for Stockton but I don't think it's the correct way of registration. Needles to say, if they gave it to you, it's their problem.

Doesn't really matter which way your RTA branch gives you registration. For $23 - $26 for a long weekend it's cheap insurance and you don't have to worry about the Rangers.

Licence? Sheesh, what next?

Apparently, Stockton is the only beach you need to have conditional rego to ride on, but that came from the RTA, so who knows. I was told by the pencil pusher at the RTA that all I needed to ride on any other beach in NSW was a beach permit, same as I put on my 4WD.

I dont understand why you need to fit blinkers. I see ride on lawnmowers, tractors, etc with conditional rego and no blinkers fitted. Its not like im going to be reverse parking or changing lanes on Stockton anyway!

How would you wire up blinkers correctly anyway, assuming you were going to fit them? I was going to buy four orange LED's and bolt them onto the guards, wiring them into a switch, however, they wouldnt flash that way, but they would be fitted and be capable of lighting up.

Either way, the RTA has made a cock up with this situation. Just wondering what happens with trail bikes now. For instance, a WR can be rego'd vs a YZ which cant, can the WR use a UVP on the beach for a weekend or does it have to have full road rego?

What about kids who ride motorbikes and quads on the beach, who arent old enough for a car or bike licence??

my understanding is a UVP is for any unregestered vehicle allowing it to be driven in public space from one point to another.on the forms i filled out at the RTA it had a section for ATV for use on stockton beach only... as does the conditional rego form. as for unregistered uninsured fines a mate of mine got done a couple of years ago unrego un insured and to top it off DUI, no fine for unlisenced as there is no lisencing requirments for ATVs under the roads act as they cannot be operated in public domain. ( except stockton).

UVP form (nothing about Stockton Beach)
http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/publicationsstatisticsforms/downloads/45070190.pdf

But, the Cond. Rego. does (Question 10)
http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/publicationsstatisticsforms/downloads/45070939.pdf

UVP's are for vehicles that cannot be registered (including conditionally)

I'm not saying who's right or wrong, I'm just saying the RTA has no clue, cause if you read their website, ATV's on Stockton must have condtional rego.

hey sorry to bring this old one up again...

i just bought a cheapo quad and have been looking all this stuff up to mayb give it a run on stockton

i looked on the RTA website at the information on both conditional rego and the UVP

it says this at the beginning of the UVP information paragraph.

An Unregistered Vehicle Permit can be issued for a period of up to 28 days for a variety of purposes. An Unregistered Vehicle Permit cannot be issued to a vehicle carrying a load for commercial purposes, or to vehicles exempt from registration. Unregistered Vehicle Permits issued in NSW are valid in all States and Territories except Western Australia.

now in my opionion. in reguards to quad bikes and conditional rego this thing basically says that u can "register" your quad for 28 days as an unregisterd vehicle. it says that it cant be issued to a vehicle exempt from registration which ATV's are not due to the conditional rego

does this mean i can just use the UVP for stockton ? combined with a pass from the metro?

sorry its a bit long winded
cheers.
Sean.

It is private property, so yes, if we were allowed on it the Rangers, RTA or cops would have no issue.

Anyone know who owns it?

I doubt it would happen though. Even if we signed an indemnity form, that still doesn't stop people from suing if they get injured, and that scares the fluffy out of people. To make it worth wild we would have to pay a decent amount, so might as well get rec. rego then and ride legally. Obviously not in the basin cause it's private property Razz That wasn't me there at Easter, it was my evil twin brother Evil or Very Mad
