Can some one tell me why Port Gawler is closing? Me and my mates went there yesterday for the first time and it was awsome fun and i would go there every weekend if i could. It was packed with people so why would they close it?

yeh insurance as a result of the serious accidents that have happened there recently, its a awsome place to ride, but is also very hectic with people and bikes going in all directions....another riding hot spot lost thanx to the people who have no idea about recreation....bloody white collar do-gooders.... _________________ Wilco65

so y dont they just increase the price by like 5 dollars a person or whatever it would cost, to cover the insurance, im sure people would pay it. I know i would

i think the problem might be that they cant even get insurance ie no one will take the risk to cover them, and if they did there would proberbly have to be big changes to the way that it is run. Also using bigger and more signs.

first of all yes it insurance issues its not that they cant afford it its that nobody will touch them at the moment, as for the comment on signs if a sign the size of your front door with the words wrong way , or the signs about 800mm square with arrows on them at every corner are not enough for you to know where you are going i dont think you should be riding at all , as we all know riding of motor bikes in any capacity is dangerous hell there could be a sign the size of a ten story building but people will still crash, the only problem with pt g is that its the only place like it around so they get huge numbers there , if you did the maths on the nubers of riders to the nuber of crashes you would probably find its more dangerous to drive out there . i was out there today and had a good chat with the owner and believe me he wants it to be reopened more than all of us and is trying every option to make it happen, he told me to keep an eye on the trading postto see when they are going to reopen so i suggest you do the same , and by the waY HOWS THE BANSHEE GOING

i must say that my comments on the signs are not first hand so i guess i could be wrong about them. But have they been increased in number and size since the last few accidents (one big one a few months ago)?

hey kev what you mean mmmmmmmmmmmmm works fine ,
as for the signs for as long as i can remember the signs have always been at the start and finnish of the tracks they have out a few more around the place though and from what ive heard the person at fault in thelast crash had been riding the track it happened on all day and it happened on the last corner if your doing the track the right way so who knows why he went the wrong way ..
that sucks about the cable breaking he should have fun on that bike it goes really well and clint hardly even rode the thing |

I dont think more signs will help if you are going 80kph all you will say is what did that say lol Smash ! What is needed is more people policing the areas .Like on the begginers track you have a track for small kids or first timers ,but then you get the down and outs who dont care or cant read the signs riding on there. I would put my hand up to help police and tell people off if they would open up again and i dare say there would be a lot of dads would want to do the same thing so their kids was safe and had a place to ride.

Yeah its ok if you have a 4 stroke but a 2 stroke its harder to do ! Someone from work was saying that you can ride quad bike on some 4WD tracks ,but i may have to look into this if its true or not . But even that would be a drive and a half away not a 20 minute drive. Im starting to get the DTs now i have not riden for a while lol. I had a Statesman with a 355 stroker which i ran at the drags then AIR shut down for a year so i sold that and got into quad bikes now Pt.Gawler has shut down . Maybe its me lol

That's true Jimbo, but you will find it is getting harder and harder to find property owners who will let unregistered vehicles onto their property, and it's almost impossible to find 4x4 type tourist places that will allow it. Willow Springs have their own insurance, but for all of the other properties we ride on (QuadridersSA) we use our Motorcycling Australia insurance. You would be surprised at how many doors that insurance opens!
