today I saw a moderately modded ltr get smoked by a completely stock yfz 450. The ltr had pipes paddles computer and a sproket for sand.

It was not even a close race.. Some races it was 3-4 bike lengths.

The excuse was that paddles on the ltr make it slower..?

Then the stock banshee with paddles smoked the ltr by a bike length.

what do you call moderately modified??

i know wasnt many yfz 450 with mods that holeshoted in clubman class with us this year and all mine has is pipe and cherry bomb and andos was only a cherry bomb for most of year with baffle removed so unsure ..... i do know the yfz , honda have a more aggressive mid to top end power over the ltr . the ltr is just a smother progressive power hence why ltr's get of the mark so well

but unsure on the paddle issue maybe just the rider was scared to gun it lol

ltr had fat boy pipes, computer, sproket for sand, filter and paddles.

Stock yfz beat it about 10x easily. Even the banshee beat it 10x though it was much closer.

He's an agreesive rider and was launching it and beating the yfz off the mark the yfz was catching in third and beating it in third forth and with.

The banshee was launching in 2nd with paddles and beating everything else off the mark, then trying to hold on as long as possible until 5th and 6th where it easily caught the ltr.

Before the banshee had paddles of was getting beaten by like 5-6 bike lengths but the ltr didn't have paddles either which makes us think that in drags maybe paddles don't work well for the 450's?

its the same as always, it comes down to the rider.

doesnt matter what bike he was on.

there are so many variables that come to play when you are draggin on the sand
gearing, tyre pressures, tyre pattern, EFI or jetting tuning, wet sand dry sand etc etc, wouldn't suppriese me that the guy on the yamie was a good rider?

Hi folks, Roycroft knows the drill on the sand there are so many variables. We arived this morning 7.00am at the dunes and the traction was excellent by 12.00pm my Banshee was spining up like there was no tomorrow running beadlocks Maxis Roosters with 1.5 psi. Also there is a LOT of differance in paddles I know of some paddles that have worse traction than normal tyres to name a few Kenda Sand Geckos and Trackers (rubbish). Then you have Maxis Rooster, ITP Sand Star and Kenda Dune Runners are excellent tyres and will easily outperform standard tyres on the dunes. Also try to stay away from the smaller paddles as they generate a smaller contact patch and regear to suit. I know one thing I have never lost a drag at the dunes against another quad running standard tyres. We only run a 1/8 mile at the dunes so you need to get on top of the sand super fast.

Regards Bad Banshee

The guy on the yfz is only new to riding. About the same experience as ltr rider.

Ltr was running trackers, banshee sand geckos and yfz was running stock tyres.

Let it be known that the sand geckos are about 50% better in the sand then the stock banshee tyres.

Cant say too much about the trackers being better then those dunlops the ltr was running prebiously (the dunlops that run standard on the honda 450)

Anyways we will find out tomorrow, LTR has changed tyres back to dunlops.

Hi Folks, standard Banshee tyres must be the worst tyre on the market Yamaha use them to wheel the quad around so they dont damage the rims. Once again I suppose its personal preferance. I do all my riding in the dunes and have tried heaps of paddle combinations over the years on different quads I have owned. From what I remember I could by Sand Geckos for a $100 each but Maxis Rooster's are $200 a tyre I suppose with paddles you get what you pay for. You just got to look at a Rooster to see the R&D thats gone into the tyre, to make it one of the best on the market. Then if your talking Skat Tracks there at another level again but at around $1000 a set and you need real big HP to drive them. By the way the standard TRX 450 Dunlops are one of the better stock tyre's for the dunes.

Ok results are in:

Bikes there:
Stock banshee (stock tyres)
Stock banshee with paddles
Banshee with reeds, CPI pipes and mud tyres
Banshee with reeds, DMC pipes and paddles
Stock YFZ (0Cool
YFZ with pipes (0Cool
LTR (0Cool (as mentioned in first post though with dunlop tyres)
LTR (07) same mods as the 08
LTR not sure what year it was.. it just showed up and it had a pipe.. not sure what else)

1 Stock banshee with paddles vs Banshee with reeds, CPI pipes and mud tyres
- stock banshee was winning most of the race (due to paddles) after about 150m the top end of the modded banshee over took.

2. LTR (0Cool beat the Stock YFZ - not by much
3. LTR (07) lost to the stock banshee with paddles (easy win) and lost to the stock YFZ (easy)
4. Stock banshee with paddles VS random LTR 450 - both one a race each.
5. Worked banshee with paddles beat just about everything - 120m - however he did lose a couple times as it was his first time racing.

Over 120m that worked banshee with paddles beat that race ready honda 450 that was for sale on here not too long ago - we saw that one out. Although that honda was a machine and eventually got him top end.

I tell you what pipes and reeds + paddles on a banshee turns it into a completely different bike.

we go up all the time.

LTR was at full throttle. 4 ltrs were at there today . I raced all 4. Modded banshee racing on hard moist sand ripped them all. Banshee was struggling to keep the front down.

Stock banshee with paddles raced all 4 and had mixed luck - won and lost a couple.

I heard a stock TRX 450 munched everything out there!
Not to mention the one with some minor work.

Either way, these are all near stock bikes.
Wait until you come across some serious drag bikes.

Don't remember seeing it.

We are all only amateurs mucking around. I think the person sitting on the bike makes the biggest difference.

Folks, any one can ride in a straight line my girlie is a formitable drag racer and she has sent a lot of guys home from the dunes with there tail between there legs . She weights 58 kilos and rides a warm KFX 700 and this thing with her on it can reach outlandish speeds and acceleration not to mention the awesome monos she can do. But I do agree wait till ya come up against some serious Banshee's and you wont know what hit ya.

Riding in straight lines is Boring.it requires stuff all skill why dont you put your bikes to the test and race around a track then You'l see who really wins or you should follow some of those old school trikes around they will really show you's all up laughing
