Have 450TRX 05 (stock motor) need help with suggestions of motor breaking down when motor warm.
Had new spark plug put in, cleaned air filter, new inlet valves. What are the signs when the CDI is playing up!!!!
Bike has an inconsistant break down where motor feels like its just running out of fuel, and seems to be overcome by changing back down one or two gears and keeping motor reved a bit faster and then it comes good for a while, then will happen again.
Not good when racing speedway with this problem!!!
Bike is easy to start hot or cold, but motor problem seems to occur when been ridden for a while.
Anyone have any ideas!!
Cheers
Heather

could be that your fuel cap vent is blocked

If its a fueling issue it could be worth servicing the carb.

If you think it may be electrical it would more likley be the Coil or Plug cap than the CDI.

It would be worth checking the coil out anyway. I know you've got a service manual so you should be able to get the specs out of there and meter the Coil and plug lead. while you're at it I'd check the stator and pulse trigger too.

Question: Was it doing this before the cylinder head was removed to fit the new inlet valves?

Answer 1 : No ! Then look at what has been done and make sure it was done properly.

Answer 2 : Yes ! Then you meust establish whether it is a fuel or ignition related problem.

Word of advise TRX/CRF Honda engines do not perform at all well with incorrect valve timing, no top end power if timing is retarded.

Give it a Compression test and even better cylinder leakage test to see if the piston and valves are ok.
Make sure the air filter is not over oiled or has water in it.
Check for Dirt or water in fuel and any filters at fuel tap and carby,Check Throttle positioner setting and Tank Breather ,if any doubt clean out tank ,and put liter of Metho in tank and drain ,let dry ,drain carby bowl and check for water or dirt
Go Through all electrical connections for water ,this is very common! Undo them check and spray with water dispersant like WD 40 ...
Check electrical components as per service manual .
Good Luck !

The fact that it goes ok for a while and then starts to break down might make it hard to find.
When coils or stator windings get hot, if they do have integrity problems their resistance can increase dramatically or they can even open circuit.
Trouble is you don't really want to 'buy' every part until you eventually find the problem.

If you can get the problem to occur very regularly, sometimes 'swaptronics' is the easiest way to diagnose the faulty part.

Ask DrZ or Froggy if you can borrow their coil for a ride.
Stator is a bit harder Sad

If you don't find it, keep putting more symptoms up here for the guys.
Collectively, I reckon this bunch would eventually work anything out. Smile
