Budd’s Creek Day 1
With Smitty racing 2 classes at Budd’s Creek (Production B and 265 B) he had a practice and a qualifier for each class on Saturday. I just got off the phone to him a minute ago and he has had a huge day.
He flipped his Suzuki in one of the practices, bending the steering stem, but not enough to have to replace it. The jumps were so huge that he was not attempting to clear any of them, but neither were any of his fellow B class riders.
He got a great start in the Production B qualifier, coming out of the first corner in 4th place. He then chipped away at the rest of the field, getting into first place by the end of lap 2, then pulled away for the rest of the race. 1 for 1, not a bad start.
His qualifier for 265 B was not so good. He got tangled up in the first corner when a rider behind him rode over his back wheel, locking them together. He came out of that in last place but even though he worked hard and chipped away at a few riders, he did not qualify for the main event on Sunday. He did however qualify for the LCQ (Last Chance Qualifier) so he has that on Sunday morning plus the Production B main event as well as hopefully the 265 B main event if he does well in the LCQ.
Though his quad was not much more modified than his Suzuki back home, apart from a rear Fox shock, Yoshimura Kit and race fuel, it pulled a lot harder than the stock machine. I guess we all know what will be on his shopping list for before he comes home. He is safely snuggled up in the back of LB’s van to get a good night’s sleep and hopefully he will have a great race day tomorrow as well.

Thanks for the update mick, I've been getting texts from him everyday updating but they are not quite that detailed. Good on ya Smitty.

Clutch problems again. He didn't qualify, but it looks like they found the problem, replaced the worn out part (clutch basket I think) and they should be OK going forward. Fingers crossed.
