i'm selling my suzuki GR 650 twin powered sidewinder off road gokart, its not the prettiest thing to look at but its tough as hell and goes like you wouldn’t believe.
its got 22x11x8 scorpion knobbys on the solid rear axle, which also packs a twin pot hydraulic disck brake of a 1996 trx 850 (2 wheeler not quad.)
with 2.1 m of steel braided brake line.
the rear shock is off a honda xr 600.
i used the gr 650 gear box and wiring loom so u got five forward gears (sadly no reverse) and gear indicator lights on the dash including nuetral. I have installed an automitve tacho which I have adapted to feed of the ignition coil inputs.
it is electric start but the current battery is stuffed through lack of use i may be able to source a better one b4 selling.
the clutch lever is mounted on the gear shift which is on the right hand side of the kart. throttle and brake pedals are in the foot well.
The chasis is constructed mainly of 40x40 RHS with the roll cage made from 30mm (approx.) tube. It comes with a bonnet that covers pretty much the entire chassis forward of the steering wheel, there is a bash plate running the full length of the chassis belly made from 2mm sheet steel, And rubber mudguards on the back.
cant remember what shocks are on the front, the spring settings can be adjusted by hand. , i have a reconditioned escort steering rack. the front swing arms are acetal bushed (as is the rear) and camber adjustable. the front wheels, hubs and stubb axle's are off an old minnie, didnt end up getting knobbys for the front. there are no front brakes, but in my opinion you dont need them any way, as it is i only ever use the rear brake in an emergency or when im coming to a dead stop, i use engine braking rest of the time.
the exhaust is off a kawasaki z500 and the chain and sprockets were all purchased and installed at the same time, the chain tensioner is adjustable and uses 2 acetal rollers on bearings. air cleaner is 2 uni filters mounted directly off the twin carbi's. fuel is fed from a 5L quad tank (some cheap jap thing) via a mikuni vacum pump. It has the wiring in place for the head lights but my old man pinched the lights for his tractor.
the engine takes a bit of starting when cold but once its warm it starts fine and runs great this thing has loads of power and a load of torque all the way through the rev range, u can spin the wheels in top gear just by planting your foot. Its probably been a good 6 months since it last ran.
i have the sidewinder book from edge (the folks who designed it) and most of the gr 650 manual (mainly electrical and engine/gearbox related content).
Please note the chassis is the original sidewinder design, not the sidewinder plus design, the only major difference is the up-swept nose on the sidewinder plus. Also the rear axle has broken in 2 and will probably need replacing (I doubt it can be fixed.) before this beast is drivable again. A new axle can be purchsd from the edge website http://www.git.com.au/~theedge/ for $256.
There are a few extras like 2 more front wheels with bald road tyres(one tyre has a big slice in the side), and
I have pics which I will try post later but they don’t do it justice as the storage space is cramped and in poor light.
The gokart currently resides in upper corindi, near coffs harbour NSW, but since I’m working in QLD I don’t have time to fix it.
I have spent thousands of dollars on this project and thousands of man hours.
I will be at my upper corindi residence from 20th sept to (approx.) 30th sept. if any one would like to have a look. Feel free to leave a reply post or private message with any questions.
My asking price is $2200 O.N.O. will consider trading for a quad.
