 |
|
I am very reluctantly toying with the idea of selling my beloved Suzuki LT500R Quadzilla. I need something more suited to low speed work for use with a passenger on the back and to follow the kids on the trail and slow rides. The LT500 was not created to go slow and doesn't like the low speed stuff much but that's what I need these days. I'm probably going to look at a four stroke now. My LT500 would undoubtably be one of the very best remaining alive (if not THE best) and is as strong and as quick as the day it rolled out of the showroom. I've had it since new and never had the need to split the engine. The compression is currently measured at factory standard and still has original rings. The bike has had very little use over the nearly 20 years I've had it, my best estimate puts it at about 200 to 300 riding hours over its lifetime. I still have the original receipt from Action Cycles in Parramatta! The only non-standard item is a full pipe system with DG expansion chamber and 'Answer' silencer, specifically to enhance low and mid range grunt. Apparently the LT500 had the only ever counterbalanced RM/motorcross engine Suzuki ever produced. The motor literally produces power everywhere and anytime - no exageration! In so many ways it eclipses the current crop of big-bore 4-stroke quads. Please feel free to call and make an offer as I am finding it hard to put an exact price on it as something which I consider extremely rare and collectable. Even the tyres are standard originals and hardly worn. I also have a seperate set of rims fitted with Skat-Track paddle tyres in top condition. If you are genuinely interested I can arrange for a test ride at Stockton. Comes with a full year rego if that helps! I am in West Pennant Hills, Sydney, my mobile is (0414) 455 666 or Bsn (02) 9634 8088. _________________ Suzuki LT500R 'QuadZilla' - as strong & as pretty as the day it rolled out of the showroom - my baby since new! |

I haven't got a hope of paying you what it is worth, but could you post or email some pics? email: sairsw@aol.com.
I'd love to see it.
Don't sell it!
Just buy a cheap old warrior or something to putt around with the kids on, and keep your LT. _________________ (PeteW's missus)

Dear 'Blaster Babe' & 'Hurtin_It',
Thanks for your interest in the 'ol girl LT500R. She sends her regards. I was going to post some photos but I don't know how. I have searched the site but can't find any way or instructions on how. I didn't think I was a web-site dummy but for the life of me I can't find a way to do it. Tell me how please and I will post some!! Oh, by the way, make me an offer, you may be surprised . . . but be kind!
Cheers, Brian. _________________ Suzuki LT500R 'QuadZilla' - as strong & as pretty as the day it rolled out of the showroom - my baby since new! |

Hi AussieDuner,
Thanks for the post, great to know the 'ol girl LT500R can still turn some heads! We spotted those georgeous red odysseys too (Pilot 400's are they called these days?) as we used to have a 350 (with full suspension)version back in the 80's. I made a big mistake selling THAT!! If we see you up there sometime I'd be glad to swap you for a ride!
Cheers, Brian. _________________ Suzuki LT500R 'QuadZilla' - as strong & as pretty as the day it rolled out of the showroom - my baby since new! |

Hi Johny,
Thanks for your interest in my Zilla. After lots of thought recently I have settled on $5,000 being a fair price for what the 'ol girl Quadzilla has to offer. The condition is very good for her age. As you'd expect, I haven't had her in a glass cabinet for 19 years - I've enjoyed (and respected) her and used her the way her designers had intended! Whilst she does indeed go like the day she was born (better low and mid range actually) there are, of course, the odd blemishes. There is mild surface rust on the A-Arms and blue painted frame at the front but all only surface stuff. I haven't 'restored' anything as I haven't really seen the need. You will be able to see everything as original. She even has the original O-ring chain and it's still in top nick. In all frankness it looks less than 10 years old. I think $5,000 is actually pretty good value compared to what is on offer from the new (slower-than-Zilla) Raptor 700 and Kawasaki's V-Twin 700! I've drag raced a few examples of each and comfortably and consistently beaten them both. The chassis is, again, original and completely 'unbent'. The motor has never been opened and compression tests at factory standard. The only extras are nerf bars, chamber and pipe (muffler). Oh, the shocks are just fine, as you would expect from such low usage - and they look it! They too are the original units. I've just replaced the air filter for the first time with an original part from Suzuki ($110 the buggers - for a bit of foam!!)
I live in West Pennant Hills (I see you are in Sydney) - If you are seriously after this type of collectors item then definitely come have a look and a ride - there is no way you would be disappointed. But I definitely will be when it is taken away from me!!! Cheers, Brian. _________________ Suzuki LT500R 'QuadZilla' - as strong & as pretty as the day it rolled out of the showroom - my baby since new! |

To Gatesy & Todd450,
Thanks for your thoughts guys, much appreciated. Todd450, I know exactly how you feel re your supposed 'friend' - I have also found these things out the hard way over the years. Had a nearly lifelong 'friend' roll and destroy my 2 week-old Oddessey FL350 in the 80's and never paid me a thing even after saying many times he would. It is the most effective but heartbraking way to find out who real friends are. Sob.
On another matter, come on everybody, there must be a kind hearted soul out there who will give my 'ol lady Zilla a nice warm home!! Come out of the woodwork for me - I'm waiting for your post!! Did I mention she has 12mths rego and a set of paddles on rims to go?!! Also recently had a service which was $400 spent on her.

To PeteW and Len,
Thanks for your posts guys, good to see my 'ol lady is still grabbing headlines! To Len, I have an inherent distrust of E-Bay but I know everyone sings its praises. Mate, if you feel up to it I will give you anything over $5K you can get for it on E-Bay. The whole E-Bay thing leaves me cold so if you reckon it is worth trying, go for it and you can keep anything higher! I'm serious.
To PeteW, I think when I sell the Zilla I will do one of two things. I will either buy the 2007 'Special Edition' Raptor 700 (Black & orange model) or I will just leave the money in the bank and try one of these Can-Am 800's when they are released. I really dunno yet but either way I think I would buy new. Thanks again very much guys for your comments and interest. _________________ Suzuki LT500R 'QuadZilla' - as strong & as pretty as the day it rolled out of the showroom - my baby since new! |
