I know im gonna sound like a goose but....
For the life of me a cant get this damm thing to take off the end of the jump or if i do get a quality take off the mongrel thing does something mid air and i land like a total spaz ive only have about 1 to 2 hours in total riding time on a quad but im good on a two wheeler ,between the 2 bikes they are like chalk & cheese to ride. any suggestions on how to do it?? .
I start my approach to the jump at around 45 to 50 kph and about 2 meters off the jump i gun it & most times it will squat on the jump and take off ok but as soon as it leaves the jump it will start to do the sidewards barrel roll or the rear will walk out to 45 degrees in mid air ??? ,I fixed my approach to the jump i was gunning it to earlier and it would wheel stand up the jump and that would be a hair raising landing but i cant work out what to do in the air so i dont look like a spaz when landing or worse stacking it with it on top of me.

You've got 4 wheels now, so an even jump face is the best way to fly straight.
practice on a dead square jump face first, and if you dont do anything with you body or handlebars, it should fly straight.
If your jump face is uneven you should weight the high side a bit (shift your body weight off centre that way), to compress the suspension over he steeper or more kicky part of the lip.
I dunno, some other guys might have better tips but I think it takes a few years to get good at jumping a quad.
But coming from 2 wheels... I guess you're half way there laughing
So maybe quicker.

Have a mate there with a camera...
You know you can win like $10k on funniest home videos these days eek

hey man i know the spaz look/feeling pretty well myself as im pretty new to jumping too. all i can say is practice, find a nice even jump, doesnt have to be big and just hit it for hours. youll start to get the feeling for jumping and know where to position your weight. ive read that if your starting to nose dive in the air then gun it or if your doing like a wheel stand in the air then hit the brake and that should help you level out a bit. ideally you pretty much want to land on all fours, i find myself trying to land on the back wheels first, cause when i land on the front it absolutely floggs my pissy little wrists. hope that helps!

Im new to race style tracks and jumping aswell and i found when i first attempted to hit a jump, i just rode over it fast and i ended up nose diving and my ass and legs were in the air. Recently i have been trying to keep a constant fast pace(probabaly not fast enough) and when i get midway through the ramp i give it a quick stab and then another stab while im off the ground. I dont think this is the best way but im interested to hear what other people have to say.

What quad have you got?
Are your front shock settings the same on both sides?
Are your tyre pressure all equal?
Thats where you can start.

Instead of stabbing the throttle before the jump, slowly increase it coming up to and going up the face and make sure you have even weight on your footpegs and that you are standing in a central position over the quad.

Hope some of that helps a bit. Smile

Its a bit hard to find too many sculptured jumps so you haft to learn to jump them to keep any decent speed up, using your body weight and clamping your knees so if it kicks your not going over the bars is the key same as a bike, as an ex mxer changing over to quads i didnt find that much difference between a bike or quad same rules apply, most guys i see on quads or bikes for that fact nose diving is uaslly because one backs off on the aproch of the jump throwing more weight forward you need to find the netural throttle for your quad to get the balance right.

You should always make sure you have your machines susp set up right, any one who has raced mx or sx on a bike will know how a bad set up on the rear shock can kick the crap out of you when leaving a ruted jump. the dreaded side ways kickout on a quad i just use my feet and legs to dring it back strait a bit like doing a clicker but its all practice and knowing what your machine will and wont do so you wont be taken by suprise.

There is an old saying in mx you haft to go slow to go fast which means you practice some thing till it becomes instint where you dont even think about it it just happens.

Remember your not racing for cattle stations and riding for fun so dont do silly thing and ride with in your ablitys no one wants to see any one get hurt! If you do go over the bars thats 185kg coming your way and its guna hurt

Cool thanks i will give it a go , maybe some sane practice laps before i get daring. I have a mini excavator down the back that i use to shape the jumps , i will iron a few out so that they arn't so ambitious for huge air time & i never tried to jump it when i had the elka long travel id say it would of been better for the landing. oh and for the other question there , its a ex racer 564 big bore stroker 05 trx450r, once again thanks for the info
