Beach Races are still on this year, Grass Tree Beach near Mackay QLD.

ok so tony called me back.
the only reason it has been cancelled is due to a lack of volunteers to help run the event. it has nothing to do with the greenies or the community being against it like i thought it might.
tony needs 20 volunteers to run the day and has only got 6 willing so far.
This I cant believe! I have been going for years now and it has just been getting bigger and bigger, not only rider entries but the crowd too. i think last year it pulled a crowd of around 5000?
anyways, it can still be run this year if tony can get the help he needs. i have put my hand up to help since i wont be riding this year.
the biggest thing is organising all the rider entries on the day, because there are so many one day license riders for this event.
tony's idea was to set up an online entry system so he can get most of the riders entered before the actual race day. that way a program can be done up and everything, with riders names etc.
if anyone has experience with this, or just wants to help out in general on the day, call tony on 0429427373.

i think the reason is mackay club doesnt want to run it as it is the same people that end up doing it year in year out and its not the easiest event to organise.

If sign in staff is the only issue, there is no major problem.
This all takes place before the event and you need no formal MA qualifications to do it, so a few of the riders competing in the event can volunteer to man the sign in area. So if riders want it to happen, they can make it happen. If it was MA officials you needed, perhaps some of us interstaters could come and help out....we all need to stick together to keep these unique quad events happening.
How many entrants were there last year?

Mick, Tony Swift said to me that the biggest problem is indeed sign in staff.
Give him a call on the above number to discuss more.
The date for the event was supposed to be Sunday the 30th of August, which apparently is out of the question now, but there are still one or two dates which it can be run on this year, due to the tides.
Last year there were 17 entries in the modified quads class, and about the same again in the standard quad class. after all the talk at the beach and on the forums after the event, and the article that atv action ran, i was sure this year was going to be bigger and better.

Do you know what dates they can run it as I would like to come and help if I am available. I might even be able to drag Bullet along to help as well. So who on this forum is intending on racing the event if it happens?

I just spoke with Tony and you are spot on. The only issue is people to help with sign in before the racing, so riders, come on, call Tony and put your name down to help out. You will be there anyway. I can't beleive that we all jump up and down and have a sook when we have nowhere to ride, but for the sake of a couple of hours work at an event we will be at anyway we may loose this awsome opportunity. It would be a shame for a unique event like this to not happen when we can make it work quite easily. Tony said he has a meeting about the event tomorrow night so I will contact him Friday to see the outcome. He did say that the event at this stage is still going ahead on the 30th of August.
Keep your fingers crossed people and please call him to offer your support.

that is a big commitment mate, a month off!!
what sort of quad do you ride and what is done to it?
if its only mildly modified, you might want to enter in both standard and modified class's so you get 6 rides instead of only 3..
if your quad only has a pipe and filter you can ride it in standard class.
