Under what circumstances can a quad be road registered? There has been a quad riding around town with rego plates spotted by a few people that I know including a fellow quad rider. Its not police, fisheries or customs that also get around on quads.

any idea?

so far no one has been in a position to ask the guy his story.

He might have it registered as primary producer or under special vehicles registration , can have sv reg if you are contracted to didnt goverment bodies or contracts.

Thats in vic anyway so not sure about over there

up here private contractors can rego their quads for specific purposes - Like TC lawns does and mounts bins on them - they pick up rubbish with them -

Grizz is right about the special reg's over here which is a direct contradiction to the vic roads terms that they dont recognise them as bkies as the spoecial regs must recognise them as something, do you know if its a bike reg Grizz?

Also theres silly things like you must ride on the lee of the road, be within 26k's of the other property, not cross major roads have some kind of indicators, but Im noit too sure as it was several years ago when I last enquired.

I have posted recently about the type of vehicles that have complianced for Reg, like the Cam-Am Spyder and Gillera 500 two front whelled trike. So can we now go out and register a ATC250R? I'd love somebody to try!

Are we stepping closer to a reasonable outcome, I truly think we are. How and when that will be appiled I dont know. But I do know that in here, Vic roads currently are preparing a contract to be let to gather data on recreational riding safety and that includes quads. How they will be able to do that with out rec riding of quads being legalised Im not sure but that issue would have to be resolved in a metter of monthsa to get their 40 weeks of data.

Nuthin I can say but WOW!

Gavin

I was looking at a guy riding one of those bubble vehicles that you see at tourist hotspots, it had 2 front wheels and one rear with a couple of stabilizer wheels on either side, and 2 stroke, it didnt look real safe amoung the traffic but probably no more or less safe than a scooter.

There was a disabled guy getting around a few years back with a road registered quad, havnt seen him for some years no though.

You can register a quad here in vic as a primary producer , but you can only use it betwenn properties and no more than 26 klm form your residence, the quad must have indicators and all the neccasary gear for reg and it must be presented to vic roads for registration.

Sv reg is where you are a contractor to either a government or local government body and it must meet all reg requirments being indicators and lights and so forth, also some other applications are possible
