Just wondering what the power difference is between a modern day 250 2 banger and a modern 450 4 stroke. I know they are totally different in how they deliver there power but how do they compare on a dyno? Anyone know?

My dream quad would be a 300cc direct injected 2 stroke in a DS450 chassie. Light as a feather and go like hell.

Can-Am were actually going to build one of those for ya Smitty.
But they changed there mind in the early days because of the modern day emmisions movement.
Other than that... I guess you're on the money then.
That would be right about where the ultimate performance compromise would be.

Just have a look at the Road going 250 2 strokes and offroad ones as-well. Theres plenty of engines to build one up in a 250 chssis or other choice.

Id love to see the figures of the aprillia SV450 vs any 450 singles and see whether people should but out hunting those down for projects!

you got that right
but how do you have that on a 2 stroke?
would it be direct injection into the crankcase?
dont some of the new 2 stroke outboards have direct injection?

I wasn't talking about quads in general ,more about 2 wheelers its just my son has a yz 250 07 and his bike seems to be even with the 450 4 bangers and i have always wondered how they compared on a dyno, so if anyone knows could you let me know , and also are the 450's all they are cracked up to be , are they all that enviromentally friendly. My sons yz 250 would use about 5 litres of fuel for 3 10 minute moto's roughly, and running at 40 :1 oil mix would be about 125 mls. My ltr 450 uses about 5 litres of fuel to do the same 3 moto's but would require an oil change after which without the filter is about 1200 mls . How many people out there tip there oil in the big drum at the dump and how many tip it on a stump with white ants like me. Are they really all that enviromentally friendly or is it just a big con job.

Exactly what I was talking about MBM, were thinking to "quadcentric". If you're looking for a project you look at the full range of motors available for all uses. Like I believe that Kawa or someone have a 900cc two stroke in one of thier Pesonal Water Craft! Maybe its no use in a land application at all under that much load but look around.

If anyone else remembers a comedy cassette from the 80's maybe we should load one up with a Casna Engine like Bill Cosby did!! Laughing Laughing

Peace out lovers on all fours Cool

OR you could do what my pa does with his ute. Changes the oil in it and puts the old in his tractors. I am serious.

Hey just doin it , The 2 gears showed up on friday , hopefully they last longer than 5 hours! They are not cheap $500 for third drive and third driven
Suzuki replaced every other gear except 3rd even though there wasn't any damage to them , only 3rd drive had teeth knocked off i had to pay for those and labour , so hopefully these billet gears work.
Wadey seems to be confident with them so far , did a bit of testing last week and said everything feels good, the bike shifts well and no false neutrals or noises so we are just hoping the teeth stay on the gear.
